The fact that LSU is going to have to nominate him doesn’t bode well. He left the program in good shape, but he also did what he did that cost the university millions from title IX events and a reputation hit. For that he will never get in.

Would Okie St. nominate him? Honestly, I'm ambivalent as to whether he gets in or not but just curious.

Yet he always had clock management problems, too many delay of games and unable to utilize The passing game effectively. He was great early but the game passed him by unfortunately. His best attribute was the ability to bring in great talent at every position but QB of course we did get screwed by RP shenanigans.

Nope. Tiger fans had less smiles with Les Miles as coach.

Absolutely not?

Compare the results to his contemporary peers. Saban and Urban are all timers, no doubt HOFers. I maintain Les is borderline, fair enough. Who else in the most important and competitive conference did better from 2005 to 2015? I guess no other SEC coach from that era is even in consideration.

It wont be some great injustice or snub if Les doesnt make it but he has a case, thats my only point. The huge talent advantages were earned; despite this common refrain, no school "recruits itself."

That's something heavily overlooked by the people in here. They're saying Les cost the university. Do they realize how much he helped brand LSU? Not many in here will acknowledge it but the truth is Les was entertaining to the nation. It doesn't matter how you want to see it for good or bad reasons when LSU played people watched them. Les was one the few coaches who had one of the strongest national presence and was probably second only to Saban's personality. That's probably why he was such a good recruiter. Despite what this board says, people loved his personality and it gave LSU a stronger brand.

But, his teams

Never gave up/played hard all 4 qs

Were tough as nails

Elite OL and defense every year

Never lost to teams while favored to win

Never had issues running the ball

Never got blown out

Change "never" to "seldom" and it's more accurate.

I bet none of the coaches have lost multiple games due to them though.

Ehhh, Les mailing it in vs Bama in that shite show national championship game and doing the same thing vs Wisconsin in a season opener would be very tough for me to overlook. Almost as bad as O after the natty.

Yea, most all of my Les memories include remembering how frustrating it was to watch the play calling of those teams.

Nothing....He deserves nothing he was almost a very good coach. His ego and lack of imagination defeated him. Pass

Les won a Natty and played for another. If Bama hadn't been on the other side in 2012, he has two Natty's. He was great for the brand. All in all, not bad. His stubborness was the downside.

How many championships would Les have won if Saban stayed in Miami? 2007, 2011 for sure. 2012? 2015?

How many would he have won had McAfee actually made FGs vs Pitt?

Are we even sure of this? If we came out equally as unprepared against Okie State as we did against Bama on 1/9/12, I'm not convinced we win against them either despite being the more talented team.

That was an embarrassing performance that set us back years and it had as much to do with Les as it did Saban on the other side.

Oklahoma State had zero chance at beating LSU. In fact, everyone but Bama did that year. You were looking at the 2 of the best defenses in NCAA. Had 2019 not happened and LSU won 2011, they would've been saying that was one of the best teams ever just by the defense.

They don't remember it though. They recognize Bama's defense that year as one of the greatest ever that overshadowed just how good that LSU defense was. Nobody was beating LSU that year due to how elite top to bottom that defense was.

Bama had to make perfect back shoulder throws all game to even get moving in the championship game. They recognized it and knew that was the only possible way to move on LSU. Catch them in man and AJ Mcarron put some throws on the money nothing an elite DB can do.

He absolutely would've won 2011 if Oklahoma State was their opponent. Les up to that point didn't lose OOC games anyway. I don't think a single opponent made it close that year(outside Bama) for LSU. Didn't they blow every team out except Bama? That was with an efficient offense that wasn't really scaring anyone. Just tells you how good that defense and ST was.

Our defense was fantastic, but we had Randle and Odell on the outside and still couldn't gain more than 92 total yards that night. Where were our back-shoulder throws? Nonexistent, because Miles was abysmal at managing his QBs and scheme when the talent levels were more equal and he didn't have an advantage on the line.

We were honestly lucky to win the first 9-6 Bama game with their missed field goals and being outgained. A good coach would've celebrated that win while also looking at it objectively and searching for areas to improve, but Les seemed like he was hoping to rely on similar concepts, field position, and luck again and it backfired miserably.

So while I think we probably beat OSU more often than not, I have a hard time believing it's a certainty, especially if OSU was able to avoid turnovers. I could see most of the game playing out like the 1st half of the Georgia SEC championship (30 total passing yards for Jefferson jfc) and potentially be a 1-score game in the end.

I think the real question is how many championships would lsu have won if they hired anyone competent to replace Saban

Sorry but this is stupid, I gave Les tons of shite during his tenure but looking back it was a fun period for LSU football and we won a lot of games.

Ed showed you how quickly things can go bad under and incompetent coach. Les wasn’t perfect but you can’t argue the man wasn’t a good football coach, you don’t sustain this program at an elite level for as long as he did post Saban if you’re incompetent.

I would say do your realize how much the LSU brand helped Les. Did you know who he was at Okie State? Do you really think would have had the success there he did here. He wanted to bring his DC Clay from there with him and he was told not....thankfully.

I hated and still hate Les.
That being said, I literally don’t care one way or another about this. Being inducted into that doesn’t change the fact that he was a fricking clown.
