I know they lax their admissions standards; however, it's still Vanderbilt. Simply put, a 'Jerrell Powe' type recruit isn't walking through those doors, no matter how good of a recruit one is.

How many of those do think are floating around the baseball recruiting pool?

Out-recruited or out-coached?

If Mainieri and Corbin switched schools, I honestly don’t think the results would be much different.

Vandy’s Tim Corbin makes $2.3 million a year and Mainieri only makes $1.2 million a year.

This is not true. Corbin received a 1.2
Million Dollar bonus in 2016 after winning the CWS. That boosted his 2016 income to 2.3 million. He does not get paid a salary of 2.3 Million.

There is only 1 answer and you didn't list it.
They get more scholarships
End of story

Vandy has to abide by ncaa scholarship rules. They might have more academic money. They have a pitching training and technology center that is MLB level.

In addition Nashville is most likely the best SEC city.

Why is this brought up every week?

Vanderbilt doesn't have the same restrictions that public schools have.

I think you're missing the point. The point being that they don't actually have to abide by NCAA scholarship rules.

Rumor has it that Mainieri never leaves Baton Rouge and won’t go farther than a day’s drive from and back to B.R. to recruit players.

Holy shite

This really is it. One of the biggest advantages is that they can recruit guys out of the draft because they know the decision isn't get paid in pro ball or pay in college ball. They never have to pay. the decision then just becomes get paid now or get paid later.

Regardless of any other advantages you may think they have, this is the only thing that matters when it comes to getting difference maker talent to campus.

Tim Corbin has made it to Omaha 4 times in 16 years, won 1 natty and is making 2.3 mil. Do you think we’d be happy with these results?

He’s just about the last coach I’d want here.

Better at what, specifically?

I mean, given the scholarship advantage he has, and the talent he's had over the years, you'd think he'd have vastly outperformed other coaches. Except he hasn't.

I had three daughters attend Vanderbilt - one was a varsity athlete - and I can assure you that the normal standards do not apply to athletes there.

However, they have higher standards for athletes than most schools. Baseball is one of those sports in which there are plenty of smart kids playing. It's more of a skills sport than a raw talent sport, and that's why Vanderbilt can be good at it. Before they won the baseball championship Vandy had one - yes, ONE - national title, and it was in women's bowling. That is a shockingly bad statistic.

Vandy is the only team that is capable of making a Skip like run from the 90's. It would be slightly more difficult, because there are more good teams, but Vandy uses the resources into baseball that could make them THAT much better. Corbin has not consistently got it done though. Vandy had missed out on plenty titles they should have, as well as missed many trips to Omaha they should have made. Anybody thinking Corbin would be head and shoulders above Mainieri is clueless.

If Bertman is in BR, SEC is still lopsided for LSU, Skip had transfers in, with Mainieri they transfer out. I know they didn't sit out with Skip.
