Question about LSU's endowment...

On paper, the arrival of Woodward is an exceptional coup for LSU, which possesses an endowment that ranks last in the SEC at around $500 million. A&M paces the conference with an endowment approaching $13 billion.
The quote above comes from a link in the first page thread about Bahnsen. The article mentions that our $500MM endowment is last in the SEC and downright paltry when compared to Texas A&M's $13B. My question is: What role does FKA have in the solicitation of funds for LSU's endowment? Is this a primary role of the University President (or whatever he's called)?

500 million can't be right?
I always thought the endowment was system wide and last I saw it was like close to a billion

I would have picked Ole Miss or Miss State to be last.

Yeah, I thought were were around $750M and around 9th in conference.
Also, don't compare any endowment to either A&M or Texas. They get significant and massive endowment contributions from the State of Texas.

According to the LSU Foundation's most recent audited statements as of 6/30/18, it has a little over $600 million in investment assets.

Here's the link to the same article from Tiger Rag that appears in another thread. I can't speak to the credibility of Tiger Rag.

Again, I ask if fund raising is supposed to be a primary function of the Chancellor's position?

Google says the LSU System endowment was $845 in 2017. Whether that is correct or not, I don't know.

Google says LSU - 845M
Bama - 885M for comparison

with the current economic climate of Louisiana a decrease of a few hundred million in 2 yrs is possible

I’m no fan of F King but atleast they’re attempting to address the issue

Today, LSU announced the launch of a $1.5 billion campaign in support of the flagship campus in Baton Rouge, the LSU AgCenter, LSU of Alexandria, LSU Eunice, LSU Health New Orleans, LSU Health Shreveport, LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center and LSU Shreveport. LSU’s Fierce for the Future Campaign is the largest fundraising campaign for higher education in the history of Louisiana.

The fund is not invested in solely Louisiana investments. It's not even invested in primarily Louisiana investments.

There is a group of mega donors that have cut off LSU both on the athletic and academic side until Alleva and F King are gone . I know one personally that gives in the range of 200-300K per year that hasn't donated in 2 years. He and others have made it very clear where they stand.
I think you will see some major changes on the athletic side to bring back the atmosphere of the past. Woodward can raise money without having to gouge the everyday fan. IT won't be immediate but change is a comin.

I’m not sure how much(if any) of these endowments go towards athletics. It’s my understanding that endowments are primarily for the purposes of education.

That's what TAF is for.

A&M's large endowment is primarily the result of 75 years of A&M and Texas sharing severance tax fund royalties.

you can thank Leander Perez for screwing Louisiana out of many years of offshore severance fund payments...

Vanderbilt is fricking embarrassing.
$4 bn endowment and they have a shithole for a stadium. They're not pulling their weight in the SEC.
