Except for the fact in the "last" one, chronologically it's the first one....And you can't see if he has the ball yet. No one doubts he touched the bag at some point, we are doubtful he stayed in contact when the throw pulled him off.

Changed those pics around and you have proof positive he wasn't on the bag.

Question being, when did he have the ball in possession

Wrong.
The last pic is in order---the first baseman moves his foot back to the bag after the catch.

You should email that photo sequence to Luke Johnson at the Advocate.

Done.

I so don't understand how that one is left off. Strikes and balls, sure, but a play at first is easy enough to confirm or deny.
becasue replay is lame and takes forever. Just let the umps call stand good or bad like they have for the past 100 years

It was a very close play. But yes, safe!

Can you post this on twitter on Kendall Roger's post where SC fans are calling it a robbery and the worst call ever. Said LSU gets all the brakes at home

You're correct! Besides the umpire positioned to the inside of the bag was the only one in position to see if his foot was on the bag. After the runner passed the bag the 1B adjusted his foot position but it was too late. The folks on TV and the fans down the first base side were all looking at it from outside the baseline. Besides it don't mean diddly now.

I'm too old / lazy to Tweet.
Can't just tweet him the link to the thread yourself?

Happy with the call and the umpire had the best angle, so probably made the correct call.

But that sliver of sunlight doesn't tell me much. The spikes of his cleats could have been on the bag, which allows for sunlight to shine through. As he presses against the bag after the catch, the sunlight disappears. Again, I won't argue with what the umpire saw, just my 2 cents about the proof of the sunlight.

I think this whole shadow thing is a stretch.

What I am looking at is his foot appears to be touching the bag and his leg is at an angle and off the ground.

In my opinion if his foot is not making contact with the bag then his knee is on the ground. He is not going to be able to hold his foot there at that angle without something to prop it against.

I still think the call was wrong....Now with that said I do not know what happens after that point maybe LSU still wins or ties the game in the 9th.

I missed it on TV. Did the ump make the motion that he was off the bag when calling him safe? Don't they usually do that? If not, maybe he is benefitting from the fact that he made a bad call although it was still correct.

From the ump's perspective, when you see the 1st baseman's foot go vertical, 90 degrees, toe in the dirt and heel up, it's a safe bet that most of the time the foot is coming off the bag.

At that point the defense has to hope the throw beats him by a step or the call goes your way by the slimmest margin, a cleat may have been touching the bag.

Just the opposite. He doesn't need to prop his foot against the bag if he's on his knee. I'd say going to a knee would naturally take your foot further off the base.

I never doubted the call as the ump was looking right at the base.
