Wasn’t Woodward fired bc he fired Kelly without approval? Seems like everyone is making more of it than what it is

Immediately after Kelly was fired, there were media reports that all or most of Kelly’s buyout would be paid by a single donor.

Was that an example of Woodward using the media to push a potentially incorrect or wishful thinking slant?

Factually incorrect
sure. It was really $67.5 million when Woodward left. Still, A lot of money.

I like how all the Woodward fanboys always hit you with the AcTuAlLy when you misstate that like that absolves him from everything else haha. He still brought Jimbo in on a 10 year $75 million deal which was a bad contract at that point in his career.

everyone seems to forget that

I missed this. Who had to convince Woodward to hire Jay Johnson in this case?

"They see Landry’s reforms as a threat because they undo a decade of control, privilege, and carefully managed narratives — a system that served insiders well but left the average fan and taxpayer behind. But for the vast majority of Louisianans, the meaning is simple: their flagship is finally starting to look like their state again."

Your flagship should not look like your state. It should look far better. It should be the place where your best and brightest attend, graduate and become leaders. Hopefully you are good enough to attract some of the best and brightest from other states and countries as well. It should be a place you aspire to, not that resembles you. If you graduate from LSU you should be different than when you went in. The "average fan" and the "taxpayer" can hopefully do the work to become a part of the LSU standard. If not, they can still enjoy what comes from such an esteemed institution, both from academic achievement, research and discovery, and athletic entertainment.

The entire opinion piece is trash, filled with inaccuracies, misinterpretations and ill-placed conclusions.

I was no Woodward fan. He made his own bed when he hired Kelly and failed to provide oversight on Kelly's flagging interest in the task at hand. I couldn't care less who left the Aggies on the hook for Jimbo Fisher's money. Woodward's sin was hiring a disappointing coach. It happens.

The article neglected to throw even the barest of shade on the moron who roosts in the governor's mansion. He is our state's national embarrassment, not the LSU athletic department, not Woodward, not Carville, not the Will Wade/McMahon folly.

LSU still has a strong brand. People need to be asking why Landry and his buddies are working so hard to damage it.

All in all, it's a crap opinion piece. But then again this board is called Tiger Droppings.

Oh I wouldn't worry about that right now.

The gov accidentally started a knife fight between the country club republicans and the trailer park republicans. Its going to get nasty sooner than later.

You would think Woodward would learn after Signing Jimbo to a huge contract that didnt workout he would never make the same mistake. Many of us voiced this when the BK Contract was signed originally . Many thought he was such a great negotiator but he basically threw more money at someone than anyone else and giving outrageous contracts. See Jimbo and now BK. He has now put LSU behind the eight ball probably for a few years because LSU does not have A&M type of money. Here's to woodward and BK

Correct. Your better institutions of higher learning are supposed to be “elite”. It’s a goal you hope to achieve.

Do you operate your own life like this? “I am not good enough at what I do to be considered elite, so you should go to someone else.” I have no idea what you do. But, I sure hope you care enough, have passion enough, and have a sense of pride enough to try and do it well enough to try and be elite at it.

Does he get it all if he decides to just up and leave?

Not all contracts are the same, even if the amounts are all crazy.

I took this as stating that the fans, the people buying the tickets, buying the gear, donating to NIL, paying for hotels to come to games, and of course the “big donors” etc are the ones paying for LSU football.. and the policies and extracurriculars that Woodward/Tate and company were putting in place, were catering more towards the elite than the people who are actually paying the coaching salaries, etc.

Your average lsu fan is not elite, but most also aren’t trash.. they’re blue collar Americans who get sick of paying more for tix and parking and food and everything else while seeing the product on the field get worse and worse… while the “products” salaries (coach/NIL/etc) go up more and more..

It’s time for a reckoning. Before people pull their money (regardless of how much or how little it may be) out once and for all.
