I say stay away from Fickell. He will hurt us when Ohio State comes calling.

Pending end of season results, Mel Tucker should be considered as a dark horse for the job. He brings the physicality that has been lost over the years which used to be our identity.

Jimmy Sexton and Woodward have a good relationship. And you can bet Sexton will be, at minimum, using the LSU job to either create leverage for his clients at other spots (think Jimbo) or to get his client a huge deal from LSU (think Kiffin). Either way, expect to hear "rumors" about several of his clients.

I would expect LSU to at least strongly consider James Franklin (as will USC). He has a solid resume with no notable scandals. However, he's a PA guy working at PA's premier college football program. One that has been close to the playoffs, but not quite there. Would he leave? Even for the big money LSU is almost assuredly willing to spend?

He won't come out and say it, but Kiffin is going to want the job and Sexton is going to push hard for him if, for nothing else, leverage Ole Miss against a hated rival.

Fickell is a bit of a wild card. Lifelong Ohio guy. Can he have success recruiting outside of Ohio? Does he want to leave Ohio? The OSU job doesn't look like it is coming opening anytime soon, so maybe he thinks "this is the best P5 opportunity I will ever be offered outside of OSU. Maybe I have to take it"?

Freeze will absolutely want it...But I don't think LSU wants him.

Sexton will try to get Gus Malzahn's name in the mix. LSU isn't interested.

A call will be made to Bob Stoops to at least see if there is mutual interest (similar to Pat Casey in the baseball search)

I think you will have some unexpected, very quiet interest (even if just to test the waters) from names you know (perhaps Brian Kelly at ND)

Eric Bieniemy might look into it if he's frustrated by not getting a NFL HC job...but I think he is an NFL guy and Woodward won't want to wait until mid-late January for an answer from him. His name might come up just to raise his profile.

Urban Meyer will be intriguing. He likely already know the NFL isn't for him. He would be a Kim Mulkey type of hire. But where is his head? Does he want to get back into the grind of recruiting against guys like Saban and Smart? Is the recent butthole grabbing too much of a red flag for LSU?

I think there are some at LSU who think the LSU job is too overbearing for Dave Aranda's very reserved personality.

Every top coordinator in CFB is going to want a shot at the job...I think Woodward is looking for a "Name" HC though.

IMO, Franklin will the the "safest" candidate among the decision makers. Can LSU moneywhip him to leave PSU? Kiffin will KILL the interview. He's going to give LSU people hard ons that last more than 24 hours by saying how much he wants to dominate the SEC and kick Saban's arse. Steve Spurrier personality 2.0. But he has baggage LSU might not want to get involved with. Coarch Urban Meyers might be the most intriguing as LSU's way to pull off their own "Saban to Alabama" style coup. But he might be in an unsure place emotionally (i.e. still wants to coach...doesn't fit in the NFL...doesn't want the college grind)

Probably. But Ryan Day is 6 years younger than Fickell and doesn't look to be going anywhere anytime soon.

ummmm, Napier has never won a conference championship. It was gifted to the school, due to corona.

uh, that team finished 7-6. And Napier's head coach got fired because of it. That's how Napier ended up at ULL.

You certainly have a odd way of defining success.

Some people just don't get it. They aren't going to hire anyone with any spec of controversy on their record. No Kiffin, Meyer, Freeze, Gruden, etc.

Saban isn't going anywhere except retirement or AD.
Jimbo isn't going anywhere except to the bank when he gets his "I beat Bama" raise.

Throw out any of the coaches over 65.
Throw out anyone who does not call either offense or defense. You don't want situations where you have to replace both coordinators and there is no continuity on at least one side of the ball.

Curly Hallman is still out there.

Hallman continued working at the college level as a position coach and coordinator for another decade, with stops at SEC schools Alabama and Mississippi State. In 2001, Hallman was the co-defensive coordinator for the Birmingham Thunderbolts in the XFL.[6] From 2004 to 2007, he served as head coach at Muscle Shoals High School in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. His first season at Muscle Shoals resulted in a 3–7 record. At the conclusion of the 2007 regular season, the Muscle Shoals Trojans had compiled another dismal 4–6 record, their fourth straight losing season under Hallman. On January 14, 2008, the Muscle Shoals Board of Education accepted Hallman's resignation as head coach. He was replaced by Cordova High School's former head coach Scott Basden.

2017 Arizona State Offense:

42nd in Scoring

37th in total yards per game

46th in passing yards per game

51st in rushing yards per game

A completely mediocre offense. Absolutely nothing eye opening or spectacular about it.

Their QB actually had almost the exact same season as 2017 the season after Napier. In fact, the HC Todd Graham was fired after 2017 and Herm Edwards with his staff came in 2018 and he nearly had the exact same year.

Uh, it certainly was t bc of the offense..
Offense finished 42nd in the nation.
Grantham was a defensive HC who finished 103rd in the nation in total defense.

Would you define this as failure?

The offensive turnaround (+40 positions) was the eighth-largest in the FBS and ASU was one of just three programs to move from outside the Top-50 to inside of it in just one season. The 76-spot swing in the passing game rankings was the third highest in all of the FBS (second among Power Five schools). ASU developed one of the elite red zone scoring teams in the nation under Napier, tied for first nationally in converting on 95.83 percent of its red zone appearances (46-of-48) with the only two “blemishes” against the Sun Devils coming when the team took a knee late in the fourth quarter. ASU was 11th nationally in red zone touchdown scoring rate with 36 touchdowns on those 48 attempts (75.00).
