DeSean Smith Interview

quote:

"We've always had these plays in our playbook. Just never opened them up. You know we opened them up in practice all the time."

"It's nothing new to us. We're just executing our plays."

"Coach Steve is doing a hell of a job calling these plays.. And I'm glad Coach O is letting him do his job."

"I'm glad Coach O is letting him do his job"

The more and more I listen to these interviews the happier I am that Miles is gone.

I'm so glad this top100 player in the NATION (Rivals, 247 etc.) is getting properly utilized. He's a total mismatch when on the field.

... and Etling is hitting him not across the middle, but throwing accurately on out patterns.

We're giving him some good film right now. Ensminger is going to do everything in his power to get this kid to the combine/a workout.

It makes you think about the rest of the talent that was never utilized..

I feel worse than ever for guys like Trey Quinn who transferred because of our incompetent coaches.

Glad DeSean stuck around

Cam gets a lot of hate but I honestly don't think it was him. Now he takes the blame for not pushing back hard enough, but it was Miles.

Unless Miles completely trusts the QB, he plays ultra conservative. The last time they opened it up was with Mett.

Again, not saying Cameron was a good OC but I think Miles hamstrung him.

Miles turned into a safe, baby back bitch...trying to clutch onto that salary for dear life.

I had more fun watching LSU in the late 90s than I did last few years with that selfish bastard making promises to those kids he knew he didn't intend to keep

I think Cam is a good offensive coordinator. To be honest I didn't buy into the Les not letting OCs do their job argument but I admit being wrong.

I saw Smith's quotes as being a much greater indictment of Les than Cam when he says the playbook is the same but "Coach O let's Emsinger do his job."

That was very telling to me.

What's sad is that we should have not only been incorporating those plays during the first 4 games, but expanding the playbook way back during the Spring/Summer.
At least the guys have been practicing some of it. How much that will help against the big boys - time will tell.

Miles has left more talent on the bench than most Power 5 teams have...
Dam shame he was left at the helm for as long as he was...he should have been gone long ago...

But Miles had the most consecutive 8 straight win teams ever.

This confirms what we heard about assistants unhappy they don't call the plays they practice

Time will tell....but if nothing else it has to give one hope that things can only go up from here....meaning next year there will be a new leader (unless O kills it down the stretch and gets the job), and we will have an actual new season to show what we have always been capable of, and what all of us fans have known for years. I think the firing of Les/Cam somewhat put us out of our misery....still lots of football left to be played, but I'm not expecting the world at this point.

It was Miles ALL THE WAY....... He may have been great pre 2012 but he sucked the rest of the time. He did NOT let Cam do his job. After 1/9/12, Miles coached scared.... FACT.....

Smith is a guy that had little chance to be drafted under the old regime. Now he looks like a decent pro prospect. No telling where he'll end up, but his draft stock is on the rise.

remember what Team Les was saying? of course he's gonna have a say in the offense! he's the head coach!

and they totally missed the point.

I remember people would laugh at others and claim they were being paranoid and delusional if they claimed that Les was interfering with the play calling.

Bad times. Glad they're over now.
