Georgia- Auburn, Florida, SCarolina

Texas - Oklahoma, A&M, Arkansas

A&M - LSU, Texas, Arkansas

Ole Miss - LSU, MSU, Oklahoma

Oklahoma- Texas, Ole Miss, Missouri

Start with the guaranteed permanent groupings:

Bama - AU - UT
AU - Bama - UGA
UGA- AU - UF
UF - UGA - UT

I don’t see how the SEC can pass up:

TX - OU - aTm

LSU doesn’t balance any of those. That leaves:

LSU - OM - Arky.

The only third team that makes sense is MSt.

Okla,Tex and TAM as they've tried to get away from each other yet can't seem to stay apart. Fully expect those 3 to be permanent opponents.

There is no traditional rivalry between TAM and OK, they were just in the same conference. May as well give TAM Mizzou if that's your criteria. LSU makes more sense for TAM plus Sankey wants to integrate the former SWC teams with the traditional SEC.

I'll stake my rep that LSU's permanent opponents will be Ole Miss, A&M, and either Bama or Florida.

That’s not how this is going to work. It’s not a pod system where groups all have each other as permanent opponents. Bama will have Auburn and Tennessee, but they still need a 3rd permanent opponent.

Auburn has UGA and Bama for sure. Maybe we could be their third?

That would be fair....LOL

Auburn boards seem to think it will be MSU or Vandy.

Can LSU be one of the teams without a permanent opponent? Let the teams that want permanent opponents have them

You are going to get downvoted but a model such as this is worthy. What it does, and this is a good thing, is actually reduces the number of rotating teams thereby allowing those “variety seeking” teams like LSU more frequent matchups with the other likeminded brethren. To explain further, if bama and Tennessee insist on playing every year fine but it comes at a cost, that being those two teams will see less of the conference. Annual tradition matters more to bana fans and more to Tennessee fans then ok, do your thing. Meanwhile the rest of us will have a holistic experience aided by the exclusion of those with different values

The first two are 99.9%. I would add Oklahoma as a possibility for the third, but I agree the other two are more likely. The only other possibility I see is Texas if they and A&M really don’t want to be permanent opponents.

One of the 3 permanent opponents has to be the yearly season ending team.

Bama closes with Auburn.
Auburn closes with Bama.
Ole Miss closes with State.
Florida closes with Florida State.
5$7 will close with Texas.

It's going to be ARKANSAS.

Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas will be the 3 Perms. (Unless the SEC decides to have Texas close with Oklahoma, then it will be LSU, Bama and 5$7 with the Astrogliders being the closer)

It doesn’t have to be. That’s the easiest way to set it up, but there are numerous rotations that could serve the same purpose. LSU and Missouri could rotate Arkansas and Oklahoma the last week. LSU and Texas could rotate Arkansas and A&M. If they do choose simplicity, it is more likely to be Oklahoma. LSU will not get away with A&M as their most difficult permanent opponent.

Even with no one having permanent foes, teams would play 6 times every 10 years instead of 5. Is it really worth destroying all permanent rivalries for one extra meeting per decade? And who do you think the like minded brethren would be? Do you want to give up Ole Miss, A&M and Bama/Florida to play S Carolina and Missouri more frequently? That’s about all you’d find who don’t have 3 teams they would like to face annually.

Why does any team need permanent opponents in the SEC?

Multiple marquis matchups will happen every year.

Scheduling parity should be the goal and permanent opponents enable disparity.

I've said this so many times.

The 2 best games on our schedule are normally Auburn and Florida... Dosen't matter the teams' records or where the game is played. Those 2 games are always some of our best games of the season.

And Bama is the biggest game.
