From an associate of mine that works for the SEC
quote:

It's most likely going to be 3-4-1-1 format. Each pod rotates and faces a different pod each season. Two pods make one division for that particular season. For example, in season 1 Pods A & B will be a division. C & D the other. The following season, AC a division, while BD is the other.

Season 1: Pod A vs Pod B & Pod C vs Pod D.
Season 2: Pod A vs Pod C & Pod B vs Pod D
Season 3: Pod A vs Pod D & Pod B vs Pod C

It may seem confusing at first, but it's actually quite simple, and it will allow everyone to face each other three times every six seasons. Obviously you play fellow pod members every year. Facing opponents outside of your pod will look like this:

S1: Home
S2: Away
S3: -
S4: -
S5: Home
S6: -
S7: Away
S8: Home
S9: -
10: -
11: Away
12: -

There you have it. The most likely pod scenario, unless they elect to have permanent opponents outside of pods.
Thoughts?

I like the setup and also do away with permanent opponents. Place the 2 rival teams into the same pod (I hate the term pods). Auburn/Alabama - Iron Bowl, Miss St/Miss - Egg Bowl, Texas/OU - Red River. I would rather use the North, South, East, West term instead of pods. Just my 1 1/2 cents worth - inflation.

Strangely ok with this. I like the idea of playing more teams in the SEC, especially those east teams that we usually only see once every few years

I do not like the idea and think you run the risk of 3 teams eligible for the sec title game. 3 go undefeated, no one played each other, who gets left out?

I like moving teams around and keeping west vs east. Mizzou, OU, and Texas to the west, Alabama and AU to the east.

I know it’s semantics and petty but I hope they call it divisions. Just like the nfl

NFC = SEC
Then have a south, west, north and east Division

Agree actually. There’s no reason they can’t still be Divisions. Quads is also better than Pods.
Pods are what Google kids take naps in.

It’s not about the SEC title game, though. It’s about dominating the playoffs and getting the money from there. Three SEC championship caliber teams? What’s the problem? They are three playoff eligible teams. The way I see it, this is what the expansion is all about.

Would suck if they go this route. Work them into the pods or GTFO

Why not pools instead of pods? Sounds less off-putting to me lol

We may see 3-4 Sec teams in the playoffs when they switch to a 8 or 16 team playoff.

Just say divisions like the pros. Not sure why this is so difficult for them to see

I think they will move to 11 games. 9 conference games, 1 home rent a win, 1 P5 (maybe only P4 after realignment). Then you will have 2 semifinal conference games, then the SEC Champ game. The semifinal champ games will make the conference a lot of money.

Home and away with everyone will be completed within 5 years. This is a good thing. More permanent games would stretch it out some.

The permanent game model can't replicate this pattern, but it certainly can do the 3 games in 6 years, and not have the two year gaps. Home and away would be done in 4 years too. Another advantage of the permanent game model over this is better SOS balancing. The jerky scheduling will lead to more imbalance, meaning some teams will occasionally have a harder/easier path.

Now this is probably a feature. With the luck of the draw, some teams could be more competitive than would be the case with the permanent game model, and this boosts fan interest and is probably good for the game.

This is also true about how they determine the champion. Got to believe there will be a 4 team playoff. Think about the 3 loss 2001 LSU team. The divisions allowed LSU to go to the CG over 2 loss FL who gave us a beat down earlier in the season. The permanent game model with it's emphasis on best teams would not allow this.

That would be fine. That would be an equitable way of setting up the schedule.

That makes sense for the 3-4. How does the 1-1 work? Is that permanent rivals

Treat it kind of like the NFL and you play the other teams that finished in the same spot as you in their division. i.e. if you win the division you play the 2 other division winners that aren't on the rotating schedule that year.

I do think it will be PODS
No way you can do divisions anymore without a 9 or 10 game sec schedule
With PODS you probably at least need to go to a 9 game schedule
I don't see LSU Fla being permanents any longer
Most likely it will be LSU Bama as a permanent as SEC probably doesn't want to give up that matchup
The teams probably in LSU's pod will come from this group
Texas
Texas A&M
Ark
Ole Miss
Miss St

Your question made me reread and I completely misunderstood what is being proposed.

First, don't know the answer to your question. I assumed they rotated, but they could be permanent.

Second, there is no 4 team playoff. I was thinking these were divisions with winners, but they are more like Lego blocks.

Year 1: winner of A+B plays winner of C+D in CG
Year 2: winner of A+C plays winner of B+D in CG
Year 3: winner of A+D plays winner of B+C in CG

Your question is spot on.
