Mainieri might not be wanted to waste Walker and Poche on Friday when there's bad weather planned.

The weather is the only reason we may go Peterson or Bain to start, just like when weather was threatening on Friday in 2015 and Mainieri went with Cartwright.

Paul and Ryan Eades were pretty heated when rain forced Eades out after just 2 innings against Jackson State in 2013 regional.

His wording and saying Saturday makes me think he wants Walker out of the pen or a re-starter after a lengthy rain delay. There's no reason to say Walker won't pitch until Saturday if he's planning on using him as a starter. Just say he won't pitch until Sunday if you're going to start him this weekend.

So you're going to burn a senior 4 year starter on a sub .500 SWAC team to make sure that your third starter doesn't miss a start in the rotation. Still don't agree with that approach.

You can't run the risk of there being nearly a month between starts for Walker

You gonna ride that horse til its dead ain't you? There are other considerations here. Quite a few.

But what if LSU goes 3-0 in the regional and then goes 2-0 in the supers... Walker doesn't pitch for a month.

In that scenario, we're in Omaha. I'm pretty happy with that.

Considering the mid week losses to bad teams, I don't think we can just assume it being 20-0 after 6 innings.

last time Texas Southern came to Baton Rouge they got swept by Southern... That was midway through this season. This team also lost to Jackson State 15-0 with their ace starting.

20-0 is a safe prediction, imo.

Considering how crap our pitching has been in the postseason the last 6 years, I'd rather Walker's first postseason experience not be in TD Ameritrade.

This is pretty much where I'm at....no problem at all with Poche, Lange, the Walker this week.

IMO, this is the way to go. Only contingency is weather.

The freshman Walker's arm is looking tired
This is a gem btw. Pitched 7.2 on 116 pitches, with only one earned run against a team that put up 16 runs the day before - 10 against one of the best pitchers in the nation.

Yeah, tired arm.

Hard to imagine throwing Poche versus this RPI 260+ team. They're not good.
TSU is not good, but they are better than a 260+ RPI when they have their best pitcher on the mound.

LINK

It still doesn't make them much of a threat, but he is capable of keeping TSU within a few runs of LSU if the Tigers aren't careful. Is it likely? No. But LSU should start Poche, and use him if/until LSU gets a comfortable lead. If LSU puts up 10 runs in the first couple of innings, then there will be plenty of arms available to close out the game.

Hmm...LSU struggling to get out of the losers bracket in the regional or LSU pitching a guy who may or may not be rusty in its third game in Omaha? That's a tough one...I'm gonna go with the Omaha scenario.

Again, why are you ignoring a scenario where all three pitch and LSU still goes to Omaha?

You mean Walker in relief?

Why use Walker in relief when you may need him to start Monday?

I was asking your meaning.

The other guys post was confusing. His and/or choice was basically the same one choice.

It's going to be:

Fri: Poche (pulled after 5 or 6 innings when the score is like 20-0)
Sat: Lange
Sun: Walker
Mon: Short rest Poche/bullpen (if necessary)

I think the rain really throws a wrench into the plan. But...

Im in favor of throwing Bain Friday night with Peterson and Reynolds closing out a 13-3 game.

It's Texas Southern people. If they beat us with Bain then our bats went ice cold and their pitcher will be going to the majors. It's just not gong to happen.
Walker getting a weekend off isn't a bad thing. I get the worries about Walker not pitching in 3 straight weeks, but I don't think it's as big of a deal as people make it out to be.

I'd be ok with Poche starting Friday and being pulled for Bain after we go up 6 or so runs. That way he can be available for a Monday game if necessary.
My gut says Bain. What will Paul's gut say?

I wouldn't mind Bain coming in with a big lead, but I sure as hell don't want Bain starting against any team. He has a good K rate, but that's about it.

Not counting our 3 starters...he's literally our 7th best pitcher. He's pushing a 5.00 ERA.
