I don’t know why this is so offensive to people, but it shouldn’t be after what happened in the game

it’s 3-3 in the 7th w/ 2 outs, and their 3 hole LH comes up, and there’s no Lhp to go to. Which you would do 99% of the time. He hits one off the wall.

Then Beloso feasts on the RHP for the walk off

I mean cmon

I've thought the same thing about your responses many, many times in football topics.

You may be right here but I think we need more of a sample size to be certain.

So there are several of you in this particular thread that I feel are the better posters regarding baseball. I'll be the first to admit, despite being a huge LSU baseball fan, I'm not as knowledgeable about some of the more subtle intricacies of the game. Can one of you explain to me the LHP vs RHP and RH and LH batters? Why so critical to have a LHP? Why would you bring in a lefty to face a lefty in critical situations?

What are these whiny off topic jabs about? I don’t even know what you’re trying to say. Either say it or don’t bother.

Pitching won’t be an issue.

I wasn't whining about anything. You like to call people haters in football threads for doing much less than what you're doing here, especially myself. It's not off topic because you're saying you're surprised people are getting offended as I have been surprised when you've been offended and called me out for doing much less and having to twist words to do so.

I think you have a pretty valid topic here. I'm just not sure it's accurate to make a blanket statement that Army got a hit because of the righty lefty matchup. There's no guarantee that a lefty gets the out in that situation. It's certainly something to keep an eye on though.

Just to give you an idea, In the MLB in 2018:

The numbers below are:

Batting avg / on base % / Slg %

LH vs LHP avg: 234/305/363

RH vs LHP avg: 251/330/423

The average MLB hitter hits .248/318/409 for reference.

So left handed hitters vs RHP actually hit above what the league average is for normal hitters.

Thank you, I guess my question is, because of those numbers, is it worth putting in Cabrera just to counter that? What if your RHP is really mowing them down?

Didn’t he pitch pretty well in his couple outings last year? I would assume he is ready if needed

If I cared enough, I'd go back and look at how many times Lester Earl has complained when Paul has pulled an on fire pitcher for "the matchup" and it hasn't worked out.

I value constructive criticism. You can call it whatever you want. If I hate on everything LSU baseball or if I’m a fence rider then you can lump me in with the people. Get over man, who cares what I think? Just stop the whiny shite

It’s factual to say it is more likely they get a hit in that situation than not against a RHP.

There’s no guarantee a LHP gets him out but that’s a point someone makes who doesn’t watch much baseball. Nothing is guaranteed in baseball. But millions of sample sizes of at bat data says LHP>RHP in that situation

If your RHP was really mowing them down, the bases wouldn’t be loaded.

There are certainly situations where you would leave a RHP in to pitch to a LH late in a game.

But Not a 3-3 tie in the 7th with 2 outs with their best hitter up, tho.

I don’t criticize PM’s game management often, so you won’t find much. I actually buy into his “gut decisions” mantra. I think a little of that is good for team morale. But there is loads of data available to make educated decisions, which over the course of the season helps to tilt things your way.

Not having any LHP’s is a blatant example of poor roster management though.

Classic. There’s nothing I can do to control how many lefties are on staff this year. I really really really like this freshmen class, do wish there were more lefties on this staff? F*ck yes but taking our best hitters mind off hitting is not something I would do as a coach. I just find it funny it was extremely quiet on this front during fall ball that’s all.

I don't think you hate on anything. That was the constructive criticism. You tend to call people out for doing the same things that you are doing. You lack self awareness and tend to be hypocritical in this area.

of course you would. Paul might have the worst gut instinct of any great coach I've ever seen. I'd actually appreciate it more if he stuck with stats. He seems to flip and flop between gut and metrics and almost always is wrong.
