People outside of the fanbase LOVE this. Trust me. Ive had several conversations with visitors that say its the funniest thing to them. Never once has someone expressed feeling negatively to me.

Football was the event and you had to be there.
That is not the case anymore.
Sad but very true. This is a very succinct summary of the difference between now and 20 years ago.
Tailgating is now "the event that you have to be there" for for many people. And back then, only a couple games a year were on TV....if you wanted to see the game you had to be there. Now, with every game on TV, being there in person isn't as much of a "mystique" thing as it used to be. Sign of the times.
I agree with everything the OP had to say....but I expect none of it to be heeded. It is a shame that our student section averaged about 8500 actual bodies in attendance per game last year in a section that seats 14,700.

Why is it sad? Things can be different.

Tailgating is usually more fun than the game itself. It's nothing to be sad about.

4. Don't play on your phones the whole time - I hate when I watch games and they span the student section (of all teams, not just LSU) and half the kids are scrolling through facebook. Watch the game and make noise. The game is going on right in front of you, not on facebook.

I am talking about pace not quantity. When I was a student, the clapping during the band's pregame was on point and synchronized well. Now it gets way too fast way too quick and ruins it.
Synchronized, eh? So when you were a student, sound traveled at a different speed than it does now? There's a reason the clapping is (and was) off point. It's physical laws, not the quality of the student section. You were probably just too drunk as a student to notice

Some people believe in decorum. Others don't. Those who do naturally believe in concepts like "preserving tradition", being considerate of others, being positive and enthusiastic don't stand a chance against those who believe in doing whatever they want because it is their right as a ticket holder. You are making a plea to "the better angels" of people that probably does not exist.
The LSU Culture you revere no longer really exists. And probably, The American Culture you revere, the one you remember as being better somehow, no longer really exists. It's not a value judgment, it's just a fact. The culture has changed irrevocably for better or worse.
Some advice from one Tiger diehard to another-This is not a battle you can win. Just carve out your little happy space with your friends and family, and tune out the things that are BEYOND YOUR CONTROL. The humility that is innate in that, is it's own reward.

This one is funny to me. Everyone is off rhythm with the band

If that's the case, then I'm stupid

I don't know when the Rant turned into Geezer Town, maybe it's been that way and I haven't noticed.
The students bad behavior of today pales in comparison to the things we did in the 70s/80s. We got away with much more back then because every bad deed ends up on you tube now and students know to be careful. I spent too much time Greeking it up back then and it got old fast, but what I saw at the DKE and SAE houses would make TMZ blush.
And some of you old guys pleading for all this civility and obeying traditions should go back and read some of your posts and the things you say about players and coaches. Look to yourselves before you look to students.
Dinosaurs died because they couldn't adapt. The world changes.

. Fill up the entire student section - Rain or shine, early or late, Sam Houston or Bama, it shouldn't matter. You have 7-8 home games a year to make Tiger Stadium the #1 home field environment in the country.
frick you. the students are a small part of the stadium. Tell the "fans" to use their tickets and do the same.

Please fill up that gap at the top. It looks terrible on tv and in person
The kids want to be closer to the field. again, frick you.

Most students didn't have drive to the game or at least that far, so traffic is not an excuse.

You talk about the history of Tiger Stadium, but then want to end this history. You're exactly the type of dbag who needs to be beaten with a 2x4

THIS! As a student sitting in the student section, it's aggravating that people think its funny to speed up the clapping. It's awful. Ruins the band coming onto the field.

Plea to the LSU Student Section
As someone who sits in the EU and has since 2001, I find it funny anyone from any other section of the stadium feels the need to lecture the part of the stadium that clearly makes the most noise and brings the most energy to the rest of the stadium.
They're not perfect, but the LSU Student section is by FAR the best section in Death Valley.
Followed...for a good distance behind, by the SEZ.

Each person is allowed to like what they want to like and I won't argue, but you are making my point for me. The football game isn't the centerpiece event any more and that does make me a bit sad. And now that I am in middle age I have to deal with the fact that things just aren't always going to be like they used to be. In the 80's, the game was the big event and tailgating was, for the most part, something to do to kill time in anticipation of the sacred moments when we got to see the Tigers play. Now, tailgating is the day long marquee event and if people can fit it in to their plans, they go see the game for a little while until they get too tired to be there anymore, which usually occurs in the 3rd quarter or so. My priorities are 100% with the football game. Times change. I didn't.

Doesn't matter. You simply can not have this happening on national television.

Ruins the band coming onto the field.
It is simply not physically possible for everyone to clap in time with the band because everyone hears the beat at different times in the stadium.
