Cap1 is certainly a good bowl, and Orlando definitely has its perks, but I just don't want Cap1 two years in a row.
And I also feel everything about the Cotton Bowl is better than the Cap1 currently...stadium, setting around stadium, kickoff day/time, only game on that day.
Cap 1 vs MSU >>>>>>>>>> Cotton vs A&M

A&M is accepting a Cotton Bowl bid today.
Just got word.

wahoo...half the equation is in place, now we just need the other half.

I don't see how that is possible being that the Big XII Championship has yet to be played. OU will get in before the Aggies should they lose to Nebraska.

keep in mind that the Big12 championship is also played there, so they may not want a team returning there a little over a month later. Tex A&M to cotton makes sense, especially when you consider A&M beat both OU and Nebraska
I'm still not convinced Cap1 passes on LSU, though (assuming Auburn beats USC).

Big 12 Championship is played in Cowboy stadium too, and the Cotton doesn't want to invite the loser to the same stadium a month later.
Plus, A&M beat both Nebraska and OU.

True. Didn't think about that. Plus Nebraska and OU has already lost there once before (both last season) so two losses in a row there would probably leave them wanting another venue for a bowl game. I'm sure the committee will respect that.

Regardless, the difference in payout between Cap1 and Cotton is just over a million dollars ($3 million vs $4.2 million), not "millions."
The payout amount for the cotton has changed to 3.575 million and the Cap One is 4.25 million. A difference of about 675K.
The Pros, IMO, for the Cotton Bowl is it is the only college football game shown on Jan. 7th (great showcase) and it is in a dome so no weather issues.
The Cons are the cut in payout.
The Pros for Outback is the extra $675K.
The Cons are the time the game is shown on New Year's Day and possible rain (wet surface could still affect team performance).

Yeah, but LSU doesn't get that. There is really no substantial difference in the $$ that goes directly to LSU in deciding between the Cotton and Cap1.
Auburn AD explains bowl payouts
quote:
Here is how it really works: Each school receives a direct payment, or a "participation fee", and the remainder of the payout goes to the conference, which then splits the money evenly among its member institutions.
The direct payments participating schools receive are split along four levels, depending on how much that bowl pays out. For bowls that pay less than $1.5 million per team, each school gets $840,000 off the top. The remainder goes to the conference.
For bowls with total payouts in the range of $1.5 million to $4 million, each school gets $1.04 million off the top. That is how much Auburn received as direct payment from the Cotton Bowl. The balance of the $3 million Cotton Bowl payout goes to the conference, which then splits the money up evenly among all 12 schools. The SEC itself also gets a cut equal to the amount each school receives.
For bowls with payouts exceeding $6 million (i.e. the BCS games), each participating school gets $1.74 million. The balance goes to the conference, which takes its share and then splits the money up evenly among the remaining conference teams.
Auburn, in other words, received $700,000 less than if we had competed in a BCS bowl. It is also important to note that bowl payouts do not provide a major surplus of money for the athletic department. Sending an entire team, staff, support personnel, band and cheerleaders is an expensive proposition.

Over on the SEC rant, someone from BOL is saying that the Cotton Bowl chairman has said Cotton Bowl is Texas A&M-LSU and Alabama will go to either Cap1 or Outback depending upon SECCG (Auburn wins, Bama to Cap1...USC wins, Bama to Outback)

I hope this is true. I'm tired of the Crap1 bowl.

I'd prefer the Cap One bowl. Although I think they owe us after last years SLOP Bowl. Yea, I know they have laid down turf.

According to the Sugar Bowl insiders, "all hell would break loose if LSU was picked over ARky".
They deserve it more, unfortunately.

The new Cowboys Stadium is an awesome venue folks. Those that made the Saints game know what I'm talking about. Fabulous facility. Playing a night game there against a quality Big12 team beats hell out of trekking to Florida for anything not named the Orange Bowl IMO.

I haven't been there yet, but I can't wait to see it! ... whether it be Jan 7th or to kickoff the 2011 season...OR BOTH!

. It still pisses me off that we lost to our last Cotton Bowl to Texas.
Not only did we lose our last Cotton Bowl, but we lost to Texas A&M the past 6 times we played them!!

I vote Cap 1 Bowl:
-better matchup (Big Ten is stronger than Big 12 this year)
-in sunny Florida
-we'll play in Jerry World in next yr's opener any way

I was wet and cold as hell at the game last year. I want a Dome. All big games should be played in a dome IMO.
