Protect the schools from what? A system they asked for or protect them from the decades of making millions off kids who received an education which was generally funded by the federal and state governments? The schools are just getting their just desserts after decades of what can essentially be labeled slave labor based on the amount made vs amount spent.

bullshite! Schools pay tons of coaches and others to recruit these kids. You don't have a fricking clue what you are talking about.

Nope. Not until they do the same with coaches. Coaches leave for better opportunities all the time. Make rules making them sit out a year too then.

Coaches and players have completely different risk exposure especially in college football. Your livliehood is dependent on those around you as well as your performance. If you don’t perform, your potential earnings will suffer. Take the past two LSU coaches - they both won championships, then subsequently proved they could not run a program and can no longer find work. I realize to an extent, this is true for players, but they ultimately get paid based on their potential, regardless of their college teams’ performance.

Further, the coaches terms of contract termination are negotiated.

The way I see it, the players want money because the sport makes money - but they want no part of the risk side. Same thing in Pro sports but college isn’t nearly as evolved, pro sports have unionized. The way it is currently set up, a player can sign with a team based on an independent entity paying an NIL deal, and the kid can bolt on the team with zero performance on the NIL required. The money is not ultimately coming from the primary revenue source or earner (the fans or school). It’s a completely broken and inefficient system.

SMH you have no idea what you are talking about. They can show cause a coach, They have million dollar buyouts for coaches so if they leave a school is compensated. Where is the compensation or protection for the university when a player like Howard leaves who they probably spent 100s of thousands of dollars recruiting???! People out here acting like these kids had it bad? ITs a freaking joke. And trying to compare them to coaches is idiotic too. Coaching is a PROFESSION. Are we gonna bitch at Professors because they make more than their students?? Its apples to oranges and a chitty argument. There has to be rules. The damn NFL has rules for crissakes!! SMH

Dude, you really need to take some blood pressure medicine. You seem to be too worked up about Howard leaving. You have 42 posts and almost all bashing him.

You really need to get out and get some other hobbies other than watching 18-22 year old dudes with big muscles in tight pants.

I wish WH well at his next stop. Wherever it is ...I hope they have a strength and conditioning coach that can put 10-15 lbs on him ..if not he's gonna get hurt playing big boy football with his current physique! Needs to go to TCU and eat some of that beef from the Fort Worth Stockyards!

I’m sorry you are a communist and hate capitalism.

Playing football is every bit as much of a profession as coaching is. Sorry you can’t understand that.

These schools deserve no protection from players leaving. That’s like saying your job deserves protection from you leaving. If these schools have a problem with recruits leaving then either the school itself has a problem internally or they have a problem with the type of players they are recruiting. They should do better in their evaluation or they should offer more reasons to stay.

Just like with a business. If they have high turnover, they should reevaluate the caliber of employees they hire or look internally as to why these employees are not staying. The fault lies with the institution and the institution only. They don’t get to just get “more protections” just because they are failing as a system.

These players have and deserve all of the power they. That’s how capitalism works. It’s simple supply and demand. For you to want to carve out special rules for one group over another is pure communism.

Irrelevant. They choose to do this as their business model and they still make millions. They deserve no more protections.

WRONG. Coaches sign contracts! They get penalized kids dont.

No. No they don’t. The “penalty” is they don’t get the money in their contracts. You think the coaches are paying their buyouts? Lilolololol

Totally different case from players in college. Coaching is a profession, playing college sports isn't. Yes they pay a penalty. Yes, they do get buyouts paid, but they do pay penalties in some contracts. You don't have a clue what you are talking about.

You don't think schools pay a ton to recruit these kids? No, you are mistaking college for pro. College kids are not professionals. They aren't. Like that are not.
And I'm pretty sure your company didn't pay a ton of money to get you hired on or have other employees spend countless time getting you to commit to work there. You need to think a little before you spill out your automatic offended replies. Furthermore, college sports has had rules forever. The NCAA is a privately owned entity.

I get it, but that's a typical risk any school faces with any recruit. Both parties go into it with that understanding.
Perhaps my view is different from yours in that I understand this, so when teenagers act like teenagers and change their mind, I don't get bent out of shape and trash the kid. I'm disappointed, yes. But that's where it ends for me.
