Permanent opponent in the new SEC

I’m assuming Arky will be our permanent opponent from another pod if we’re matched with state, OM, and aggy. I’m curious to see who the other schools will be paired with based on possible pod placement today. My best guess is:
LSU vs Arky
OM vs Vandy
Aggy vs Texas
Auburn vs UGA
Kentucky vs State
Tennessee vs Florida
USCe vs Mizzou
Oklahoma vs Bama

This looks good for LSU but if Saban is retiring by the time it happens you want Alabama in your division because they won't have the huge recruiting advantage anymore.

Not sure in a 16 team there will be divisions. The SEC network proposed 4 4 team Pods. so 3 POD games and 2 each from the other 3 PODS for 9 games. So I think that was by design that the SEC network went with 4 PODS and the 9 game schedule.

We do not hafta worry about this until after the 2025 season due to OU/UT TV rights to the Big 12.
I am hoping we'll have NO permanent opponents outside our pods, the 3+2+2+2 system. In a 4 year period you'd play everyone home and away.
LSU would play A&M, State, and OMiss every year.
Odd years we'd play Alabama and Tennessee, Georgia and Kentucky, Texas and MIzzou. Even years we'd play Auburn and Vandy, Florida and Carolina, and OU and Arkie.

Pods are divisions. It would essentially be set up like either of the conferences in the NFL. Four 4-team divisions. The only way to do it with no divisions or pods is to set 3 permanent opponents and rotate the rest. But not having divisions would cause a LOT of confusion.

No permanent opponents outside your pod. 9 game schedule. So, you play the 3 teams in your pod, 2 teams in each of the other 3 pods. Doing it this way, you have a home and home with every team in the league every 4 years.

We should play the other 3 teams in our pod every year and other than that there should be an equal rotation. That permanent opponent in the other division stuff that the SEC office decides to impose on us is a bunch of BS. If we got to play Vandy or Kentucky every year I would not complain about it, but looking at it objectively it would not change my opinion.

I like that arrangement but we’ve been clamoring for the permanent cross over opponent to go away for years. I guess this will force their hand.

Absolutely, every LSU fan/season ticket holder (which I am) will see LSU play ever one of the other 15 teams twice in a 4 year period and see every team come to Tiger Stadium in that time period.
For fans of every team in the SEC, this model will allow ones who like to travel to road games to see every one of the campuses in the league in a 4 year period. That is the way it should be.

I think they’ll make the move before then. 2023 season at the latest. Some national radio guys think it could happen as soon as next year.

If we go to 4 pods I want no permanent out of pod opponents.

Texas and A&M are 90 or so miles apart and have history with a great rivalry. They should be in the same Pod. Our 4th should be our geographical rivalry with Arkansas.

*One permanent rivalry game using the SEC Channel pod:
Bama vs. LSU
Texas vs. A&M
Auburn vs. Georgia
Tennessee vs. Florida
Arkansas vs. Ole Miss
Kentucky vs. Missouri
South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt
Mississippi State vs. Oklahoma
*This format would insure that these annual rivalries remain intact.

That’s not worth 4 rivalries that will occur every other year any way. If they really want the rivalry they can schedule them non conference in an off year.

So LSU could potentially have a season where they play:
-State, Ole Miss, Aggie
- Florida and Georgia
- Auburn and Bama
- Texas and Oklahoma.

Is this is a done deal then? I don't really want Texas and Oklahoma in the SEC.
