It's based on the lack of eligibility of the players. If LSU main campus runs out of money, no one will be able to attend classes. Ergo, the players would not be academically eligible. He's not using football as saying he'll take it away, he's showing the detrimental effects that failing to fund the university could have across the board
Need to put this out there again

As it currently stands the entire university system will not be able to keep the lights on past April.
It doesn't matter how much financial support the football program gets. He's not threatening to shut down football, he's saying that it's very much a reality if the shortfall is not addressed immediately.
He doesn't want to shut anything down, he's saying it could happen. Essentially presenting the most extreme worst case scenario to get people to wake the frick up.
Oh look, I found one of the actual idiots that drinks the kool aid.
You're probably JBE. Hey governor, frick yourself.

I'm failing to understand why it is our job as tax paying citizens to "wake the frick up".

It is amazing Jindal gets a pass and the new Govenor gets all the blame. One way states generate revenue is from taxes, so what's wrong with us doing whatever we face too to get the state back on track. If Edwards is so bad let's give Jindal a third term and see how that work out. Jindal sucked and all you republican know it

All I have to say is thank Gawd this didn't go down before National Signing Day.
Would it affect it? Maybe? Want to test it? No!

Jinal got us in this mess

As much as Jindal carries blame for this, that blame is spread across all of the elected state government. The real problem is all these elected officials are primarily worried about getting campaign fund contributions. They will sell their grandmother into prostitution for a small campaign contribution. Thus special interests rule.
Easy solution to this: governor and legislature need to come together and put all special interests aside and settle this in the best interest of the state. We all know that will never happen.

yes, it is self sustaining. However, if there is no school in the fall.... that means no eligible players regardless if it is self sustaining. Can't have LSU college football without "college"

Did he really say he was suprised at the budget deficit after being in the legislature for 8 years? Did he vote to approve the budgets too? If he did that I could see how you could fnd him at fault as well, that would be crazy.
The libertarian in me likes the legalize marijuana idea but that isn't happening, nor the selling naming rights to government properties though that would be creative. Louisiana would become the NASCAR of governments. They should not freeze legislature salaries they should stop pay altogether (or maybe that is what was meant). That would save a little bit of money and likely get something done.
I'm still not sure if everybody agrees there is a problem though. Do conservatives in the state buy that there is billion dollar whole in the budget? If no how is the governor getting away with making up this number? If yes where are the alternatives to tax hikes by conservatives to undercut the guy? What are the proposed solutions?

You're an idiot. If the players can't go to school, they won't be academically eligible to play football.

He's going to shutdown a flag ship university? In the words of Dr. Evil: R-I-G-H-T!!!
Posted on 2/12/16 at 8:42 pm to nolatiger88
I'm having trouble getting a handle on this. Has LSU ever "run out of money" before? As in the fricking university could shut down?
Posted on 2/12/16 at 8:51 pm to nolatiger88
Ergo John Bell Edwards is an idiot.

Edwin Edwards was a much, much better governor than Jindal.
With all due respect, you are a dumb shite if you really believe this and the dumbest post in this thread. Good example of why this state is fricked.
Edwin was a motherfricking convicted felon that stole an incredibly bright future from this state and didn't do enough to keep Louisiana in the game with rapid industrialization all over the south happening. His 4 terms as governor was far more damaging than anything Jindal did. We could have had New Orleans and Baton Rouge being the new Dallas/Fort Worth a decade ago.

The state legislature over the past 50 years is responsible for these problems. People always tend to blame the governors for trying to FIXING problems that the legislature created.
That said, yes I believe JBE is a moron.

Dude I shite you not. Guy on Facebook says its Obama's fault for purposely lowering gas prices so it could hurt some southern states. I understand it's only one person so far but he has 2 likes. 3 fricking idiots. These people are among us, they vote and unfortunately reproduce. Where do people come up with this stuff?
Obama didn't purposely lower oil prices, but he is trying to levy a $10.25 tax on every barrel of oil which will certainly hurt the oil industry even more. And yes, Obama has no love for the southern states.
