Sad for him, but God willing he will return better than ever.

Was it overly unexpected? no, but this is still a huge blow.

Knowing Eric Walker's arm would go out the week of the CWS - we applaud everyone who, given that knowledge, would handled him the exact same way?

Me predicting that his arm was tiring and wanting him to get less use... How was that wrong? frick you guys for feeling important by blaming every coach who touched Eric except the LSU staff.

If the arm is going out, how is it coaching perfection giving him 116 pitches in the regional?

Doubling down, huh? How do you still not get this? Freshman arm fatigue (which he didn't show signs of - not sure what you're talking about) and a UCL issue are two completely different things and as many, many people have already told you in this thread, issues with UCL likely develop over many, many years - not just from throwing a lot of innings as a freshman.

So you're operating under the interpretation that Mainieri and Dunn knew Walker was hurting but threw him in the regional anyway?

The mental gymnastics taking place to put blame on PM here is gold.

What symptoms did Eric have before the CWS? I'll hang up and listen

It was clearly the 7.2IP, 8K, and 1R game he pitched vs Arkansas in Hoover.

I'm just standing in awe of everyone who, in retrospect, wouldn't change a thing. Even if these posters knew the arm would go out week 1 of the CWS - they would pitch every outing leading-up the exact same.

I wanted him to get rest late in the year, so I'm getting piled onto because this thread has decided that Walker's pitching this year had nothing to do with his arm injury.

I understand your points. My point is: you guys are refusing to acknowledge that 2017 had anything to do with this surgery. Just because you have other posters patting your back, doesn't make it correct.

he did get used less. he had a two week break between the regionals and the CWS

sounds like you think you are more qualified to use your gut based on nothing than the LSU training staff, doctors, and coaching staff
quote:

If the arm is going out, how is it coaching perfection giving him 116 pitches in the regional?

because he wasn't showing any signs of his arm going out when he threw 116 pitches in the regional. in fact, some of his best pitching came in his last two starts, excluding his start in Omaha

BTW, here was your post (again) in reference to Mainieri electing to rest Lange (our best pitcher) until Wednesday instead of starting him game 1 on 2 days rest
quote:

Usually people use their best pitcher game 1. We did the opposite.

So what is it? Do you think coaches should rest players or not rest players. Or is it that you look at an unpredictable injury in hindsight and look to for any way to blame Mainieri because it makes you feel better to do so. If you actually looked at his history of using pitchers, you wouldn't be ignorant enough to say that he overworks them. If anything, it's the opposite.

You forgot the most important point.

Resting. Him. For. The. Regional. Would. Not. Have. Prevented. This.

I'm standing in awe that you think Mainieri has any culpability in his injury or handled it poorly

he did

because it didn't and because you deserve it

Decisions don't get made in retrospect.

On realtime data there was zero, zero to do differently.

You keep talking about PM, this was handled by the book by the medical staff. A Dr. in this thread has pointed out not only that is was correct, but why it is correct.
