I love the people with short memories all of a sudden. He was a great DC here.

He was great here. His Youngstown defense is pretty solid stat wise. However, his red zone defense and TDs allowed this past year at Youngstown was pretty bad. In the 50s I believe. That's my only concern and I don't even know if it should be because I don't shite about Youngstown so it's hard to take the rankings too seriously. I am just going to trust O knows more than any of us about the players and the defense.

I will say that I think O prefers hiring guys who were or can be head coaches for his coordinator positions. It's pretty smart, imo. Bo should not only put out a good defense but be able to evaluate talent and manage it from his prior HC experience.

What were the defensive stats while he was at Nebraska?

I bashed the O hire, but love the Pelini hire.

OP needs a new schtick.

I looked up his numbers against those team and they weren’t sub 20 like people want to make them out to be. I actually believe they were 30+

And we gave up 20+ this year running that type of offense. SEC defensive stats 10 years ago were skewed due to type of offense. The worst he ever did at Nebraska was 9-4 and there recruiting rankings were nowhere near Texas, OU, Texas A&M and Baylor under Briles in Big 12 nor Ohio State, Michigan, Wisc, Penn State, Iowa, Michigan State in Big 10

Bo has a really good HC coaching record at 100-55 and 4-3 in bowl games. LSU is getting a hell of a coach that players are going to love playing for.

As with most things on here, people are unable to find the middle ground between acknowledging O has earned the benefit of the doubt with his coaching hires by virtue of this past season and an unwavering belief that this will be a tremendous hire by mere virtue of the fact O was the one who made it. Not all of his hires at LSU have been as successful as the Brady hire. In fact, you could argue there have been more "misses" than "hits". Yet, when you go 15-0 and win the NC you get the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

It is possible to still be a fan and full supporter of the program, but also have a little bit of concern about the hire based upon the fact there doesn't seem to have been much of a market for Pelini at the time. Now, LSU seemingly had a LOT of options to choose from for this hire, and I can't imagine O wants to regress on defense. So if Pelini is the guy, then O believes he won't cause the defense to regress.

For me, I think it is as simple as O wanted a guy who is "aggressive" up front and he relates more to the Pelini firery personality than the Aranda cerebral, quiet personality. There was no reason to get rid of Aranda, even though he may not have been the type of guy O would have hired at the outset. But once the spot opened up O got the type of guy he wanted.

We'll find out if it works out. It is entirely possible Pelini is a crappy recruiter but hell of a coach if someone can get the talent for him.

He never won fewer than 9 games at Nebraska and this era Nebraska is not Bob Devaney or Tom Osborne era Nebraska.

Dude that’s exactly what you did with Aranda lol. It’s amazing that you can’t see that.

Yes, you’re definitely misremembering, here’s his defenses while here.
2005-14.2 ppg
2006-12.6 ppg
2007-19.8 ppg

You can also be just as multiple and creative in a 4-3 as you can a 3-4 if you do it correctly, and no offense, I don’t think pelini gives a shite if you’ve enjoyed watching the 3-4.

There is no thinking, I know he doesn’t.

I’m just expressing my opinion that 3-4 can allow for greater creativity with blitzes and coverages

sorry. Not fired up about the Pelini hire. That defense was horribly overrated in 2007. Look at the points we gave up in Oct and Nov (forget the OTs. The points given up in regulation vs Kentucky and Arkansas were a lot.)And that team was loaded with talent.

Not sure not jumping up and down about Pelini = jumping off the bandwagon in your world, but knock yourself out.

By the back end of 2007, LSU was without RJ Francios to start the year (he came back for the SEC title game), Alexander went out vs. Va. Tech and Glenn Dorsey got his Knee messed up vs. Auburn in week 8 and really was not healthy again till Ohio State in BCS game. That is what happened to LSU in 2007.

Nope. I bashed the O hire vehemently...im incredibly pumped about Pelini

So there ya go...

Some people are actually objective and use facts to back up there position.

O hire was bad on paper and historically

Pelini is a great hire on paper and historically.

O destroyed my position with the NC, and hiring pelini solidifies that even more. Great move.
