I don't think, in the 35+ years I have been watching baseball, I have ever seen a left handed SS or 3B.
Paul should do it just to prove that he has tried everything to get us back on track.

great season no doubt but pm got carried by po/lang/walker...mostly po/lan
The gymnastics that LSU fans do to avoid giving credit to a coach will never stop amazing me.

Do you think you are biased in regards to coach Paul?

I am just one that doesn’t understand not giving a coach the credit when a team performs well but blame him for all the wrong. Players and coaches deserve credit and criticism no matter the results. It is a joint effort and usually it is shortcoming in both that lead to losses.
I think he is a very good coach that is better than the fan base thinks he is. I don’t think he is the best in the country but he is top 5 (the other 4 in that group are not coming to LSU) and if LSU moved on from him I would not be upset. I think Tony Vitello could come to LSU and have at least the same amount of success because I think he is the next great coach in the sport.

Who recruits the roster though? The roster holes post the 2017 runner up season are not the fault of the actual players. They simply have not been up to LSU standards.

They have had great recruiting classes since then they just haven’t been on the field. Do people forget that there wasn’t a SEC season last year?
2018 class - 1 full season
2019 class - 0 full seasons
2020 class - the newcomers that were ranked #2 recruiting class in the country.

Why are they going to start a bunch of freshmen if the classes have been good?
Why doesn’t Paul have a left side of the infield?
Better yet do you feel comfortable with him all of a sudden wanting to plug Bianco there 3 days before the season starts? A guy that most LSU fans were comfortable with walking away this offseason when he was rumored to be leaving.
And no offense to Beloso but in what world is it acceptable that he is your best returning player at a program like LSU?
The roster is full of corner position players who quite frankly have not proven they can even hit all that well.
LSU will always be competitive which I think makes it hard for the naked eye to see. But the level of talent has really slipped from what used to make LSU formidable.

I’m no Mainieri apologist, but this is a silly complaint. His bullpen decisions and need to force action through hit-and-runs will drive me up the wall, but his willingness to shuffle lineups is probably his greatest attribute as a coach. By the end of the year, I think he has always found the best lineup combination to win games. That only happens because he’s willing to shuffle lineups early in the year to give guys opportunities to show what they can do when the lights come on. Your characterization of this ability is extremely dismissive. It’s not something every coach actually has
Big ups on this post. I don't know dick about baseball and I've been critical of CPM in the past but even as someone who doesn't know dick about baseball I recognize that this is probably his best attribute as a coach.
Baseball is like a box of chocolates so the best you can do is take a bite of everything in the box to see what's in it.

This isn't LSU related, but since this is the most active baseball thread I figured I'd mention it.
Mizzou has 55 players on their roster for this season.
That's completely absurd. That's D3 level shite.

Are you mad that a guy like Dylan Crews who should be playing pro baseball is going to be starting for us?

I bet you were one of the people complaining like 2 years ago that PM only recruited small shortstops to play every position..

Project, what are they gonna do? Cut close to 20 players by today?
Dont they have to get down to 35 plus last year seniors?

Of course not. It has more to do with the narrative about how loaded everyone is with returning talent and LSU has new players all over the diamond.

I don’t care how big you are.
But to be honest I do think that got into the coaches head, and your roster reflects that to some degree.

There is no roster limits this season.
2021 - Unlimited
2022 - 40 players
2023 - 38
2024 - 35
So they will have to make a bunch of cuts in the offseason probably.
We are at 38 players. There were a handful of other schools whose coaches I heard on podcasts that had the same outlook as Mainieri, not wanting to bloat the roster too much because then how do you actually get reps for that many guys.
We are currently at 53/40 for next year and looking to add more because of the expected hit from the draft. 29 (I think) of the 53 are draft eligible with about 23-25 that will generate at least some interest from pro ball.
ETA: We may have more guys committed as there is talk that we have a couple guys coming in from LSUE in addition to the 3 JUCO guys currently committed. But no one has provided names.
We are still looking at JUCO pitchers, and what now seems topical to this thread, JUCO corner infielders.

Good pitching matchup with Braden Olthoff (Tulane) and Hayden Durke (ULL). I'll have that one on TV while I work.
