I'm not a huge PM fan, but how in the world is this his fault?

So being honest was a bad thing? Dude, he can't play outfield part time. It's that simple. PM told him like a man and he wants to go somewhere and play.

Did he or did he not run off a first round talent?
Sounds like this “first round talent” quit because Paul didn’t kiss his arse and had the nerve to tell the kid he had to earn his way in baseball team.

OP is mad because CPM handled the situation correctly and didn't bullshite one of his players.

Why should Coach juggle his lineup around just so Hampton could play? The baseball program is trying to win, not coddle a football player.

He basically told the kid he didn’t have a place at LSU on the baseball team
And what Paul actually told him was
quote:
He was going to have to be patient in waiting for that opportunity."
Hampton heard that and left, so maybe it was more that he didn’t want to wait for his opportunity after splitting time between two sports.

Anyone that has an issue with the way CPM handled this is just looking for any reason to bash him. He will give you plenty of opportunities for that you don’t need to grasp at straws for one.

So what’s the problem? Sounds like he tried to be up front with Hampton so he knew where he stood and could make a better decision.
this
The kid isn't upset that Mainieri told him what his status was. The kid is upset at his status.

If he was a first round talent he would be playing ?????! What wrong with shooting straight?

Mo (and his dad) turned down 1.8 million from the MLB. That is first round money yes.
We'll see how close he goes to the first round. It will be interesting to see how far off you end up being.

Sounds like he was actually looking out for the kid. More coaches should act like this tbh

Me? That wasn’t a guess. That’s how much he turned down coming out of high school. It’s in the article from today.

People are confusing what first round talent means as an 18 year old be a 21 year old when he is eligible again for the draft.
As an 18 year old it means he has raw talent that can eventually develop into a MLB player in 4 to 5 years. As a 21 year old it means that he has developed talent that needs some fine tuning to be a MLB player in 1-2 years.

“He never said he was not going to play football anymore. That's a blatant lie. Smh. We met with him. When he says behind it was not talent wise. He said behind meant in depth because he was at football in the fall. But that was not what Paul Mainieri said in recruiting.”
“He was promised that he would have plenty of opportunity. Now it's we're not sure when you'll get an opportunity. Coach O never lied to him, he has been stellar.”

He's going to be dangerous at Vanderbilt.

Work for fricking what?? He's not getting an opportunity?? What part of that don't you get?? I would take my arse on too.
That’s because you are a marshmellow lil boy. Prove you are the best by working hard at practice and showing and communicating how much you care and want to be on the team and earn a spot.

He’s going to tear it up, you can see this coming, like the demise of LSU baseball under Maneri
Posted on 3/11/21 at 9:36 pm to The Pirate King
You better hope someone other than Rummel doesn’t come around and decide to ban your arse

And he may and I hope he does but that doesn’t mean the way CPM or Hampton handled the situation is wrong.
CPM was honest with where he was compared to the other players. Hampton took that information and decided he didn’t want to wait and he is now transferring.

I guess you hated Skip Bertman too.
