Is he supposed to be as good as his brother? I never keep up with the baseball recruiting because I always get disappointed when the ones I really want to come to lsu end up signing.

If you hit .600 or so in practice, you get an “opportunity.”
In the three spring scrimmages Scuba attended and posted the box scores from Hampton went 0 for 9 with 1 walk and 4 k’s.

I told him if he was going to put all his eggs in one basket with baseball, I didn’t know how that was going to work out for him because he was so far behind so many guys in our program," Mainieri said. "His opportunity was going to be so far away. He was going to have to be patient in waiting for that opportunity."

By no means am I a loyal supporter of Mainieri but at least he was honest with him

Lofty. I'll have to get more info on him.

There were leagues happening? Could have sworn they were all shut down.
We definitely had guys playing, even some of the incoming class. Some leagues shut down, some were delayed, and some new leagues formed. If project sees this he can tell us for sure as he was tracking it, but from the last two classes (2020 freshmen and current freshmen) I would say we had more playing than not.

It’s crazy to think that Paul maineiri is the second best coach of the major sports on campus behind will Wade but that’s the current status of lsu athletics

I don't understand why anyone would be bothered with PM being honest with the guy.

Sounds like the appropriate thing to do.

Crews definitely played in Florida and I believe Jobert was on his team. I think Doughty was in the same league, and Coleman definitely pitched somewhere else because I remember gawking at his strikeout numbers. That’s all I remember off the top of my head just because of their performance, seeing highlights, etc.

ETA: Not that Jobert impacts Hampton this year but since he was mentioned in the thread.

He played infield in high school, mostly been a 1B/DH in college. He can play RF. He played with Crews in the Florida League this summer.

Hampton definitely should’ve gotten more opportunities with Gio hurt but I can’t blame Paul for telling the kid the truth about his status on the depth chart.

He got passed up. The truth hurts sometimes. I hope he ends up with a 10 year MLB career in which he is a perennial all star. But that still won’t change the fact that he just got passed up here in what is one of the deepest outfields we’ve ever had.
