This board has a lot of Mainieri haters on here, because he had the audacity to win only one national title,

Pretty sure he created that hate with his penchant for throwing players under the bus.

bullshite people act like Smoke was Hallman or McMahon.
Smoke got the Tigers to the World Series twice in his short time as coach. Yeah the last year was terrible missing the postseason. Paul missed the postseason a couple times himself.

Are we just ignoring Smoke's last two years... that's the trainwreck Paul took over.

Defending Smoke's shitshow because you refuse to give Paul any credit is next level idiocy.

Rightfully deserved. Look at some of the past rosters that he coached. The talent was there to win 2 or maybe even 3 more championships.

Wonder if during this tenure he let any pitchers DH because he asked him if he hit in high school, despite never swinging the bat. Or if 3 days before opening day asked if any of his pitchers played 3rd base and pencil him in a starter for opening day.

This is such a narrow-minded way to look at it.

It's not like Paul lucked into a title in 09 and didn't do anything else.

From his first Omaha appearance in 08 to his last in 17, the only coaches in college baseball in that timeframe that you can definitely say had more sustained success were Ray Tanner and Kevin O'Sullivan.

Damn.. really wanted to see him come back to the Box and get his arse handed to him. Especially with the crap he talked about Jay and the 2023 team.

Hope he's not allowed any where near the program

He wanted to cement his legacy as a baseball coach by ensuring that no one would ever reach the heights he did there.

What better way to do that than hire a NC winning coach who had no chance to succeed. “See, I’m the greatest. No one else could win here.”

Ray was an elite baseball coach. He’s just a horrible AD or whatever he is now.

It’s almost like he wants to hire average coaches on purpose so nobody will overtake Ray as the goat baseball coach of USCe.

Edit: ProjectP2294 beat me to it with this thought lol

The game last night was a lot closer than that 22-6 score.
I didn’t watch the game so when I saw this comment I looked at the box score. Just now realizing this was a joke because the box score is actually uglier than the final score. 17-0 going into the bottom of the 4th with four straight crooked numbers

He got paid. Good for him and I’m glad it was on South Carolina’s dime. I think he wanted a pay check. He can sit with the GOAT and watch Jay compete for championships.
