Paul is a very good coach but he has faults

Who doesn't? We are about to play against a baseball coach who has over 2,000 wins, has tons of 40 win seasons, has the longest active streak of making the NCAA Tourney, and he has a grand total of zero national titles. Think he didn't make some mistakes a long the way?

Continually throwing HH out there due to “defense” is killing us offensively

17 runs, 8 runs, 6 runs in a 3-0 run through the regional. Are you sure it's "killing us?"

quote:

His decision making regarding when to pull a pitcher has always been questionable

Hindsight is 20/20, and that is never more true in a sport more than baseball.

quote:

He can’t make up his mind on a lineup and is always tinkering well into SEC play.

And how many times have we seen this pay off BIG TIME? There is no rule, or reason that your lineup needs to stay the same every game.

quote:

He has no rhyme nor reason regarding when/when not to bunt

Again...hind sight.

quote:

Of course this says nothing about the rash of injuries every year to his pitching staff that decimates us- can his handling of pitching talent not be questioned?

They had a rash of injuries this year. More than normal. If you want to blame that on the coaching staff, then that is fine, but be prepared to tell us what they are doing wrong to cause these injuries. USM has multiple pitchers hurt. Their starter in game one is coming back from TJ. One of the pitchers this weekend had 2 TJ surgeries. MSU lost their Sunday starter in the regional with an injury. If it only happens at LSU, or happens at LSU at a higher rate than every other school, then tell us why if you want to put your finger on one particular thing/person.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. CPM is different this season. I think he has done a helluva job give what the season has brought
Touted bats not hitting (of course some will point to his hitting coach hire)
Pitching catches the wind wrong and they have a sore arm (negas will solely blame Paul despite him taking great care of his pitchers, as in, he doesn't over do the pitch count or bring guys back too soon)
And what I think has weighed him down the most is his father passing
The man lost his mentor and father in the middle of the season and had zero time to properly mourn. It was right back to the ballpark, quite literally.
I think that has changed him this season and not being able to process that affected him and his players with everything at once

Now with time passed, players turning around, pitching solidifying, the world is not weighing down

Inb4 negatigers say he should keep things separate at his salary or step aside if he can't focus because they are idiots and assholes

We all want Mainieri to coach, Fla State is playing really hot, but he needs to chill some. It looks like the stress is killing him. Get the Tigers to Omaha Paul, but don’t die on us doing it.
Do you just constantly make shite up in your head?

The same clown who started this thread, started a different thread less than a month ago saying to ‘put a fork in LSU’s baseball season’

LSU appeared done to many who know baseball, due to their injuries and poor play at the plate, Credit Mainieri, it just shows the enormous coaching job he's done up to this point.

If you think this, then perhaps you are very confused about who knows baseball. It doesn't appear you do.

With the massive injuries LSU had, including to their no1 and no2 pitchers and their very poor at bats, it was very rational to assume LSU was in trouble. Again credit the coaching job of Mainieri.

Not in the middle of April. There is nothing rational about that at all.

I was thinking the exact same thing. He went from calling the season over, to being a big baseball homer during the SECT, to thinking the sky was about to fall once we reached the finals. From totally irrational, to rational, back to irrational in the span of a few weeks.

To add that his father passed away which I am sure had a huge personal and psychological blow. Let the man coach! CPM all the way!!!!

IMO he's basically just done his job up to this point. Nothing more and nothing less. I'm a big fan, but I don't think it's time to start praising him just yet.

Good point. So far he hasn't delivered the National Championship that he owes you.

Sometimes you really can be the worst. I didn't say anything close to that.

Second finest.

2017 was his most amazing coaching job. That team was dead in the water and they went on a tear and had a chance to win it all

I think 2008 was his finest, we went on such a win streak to get us a national seed. Made it all the way to Omaha and built the foundation for the 2009 championship

Fans are arguing over which 2008, 2017, or 2019 was Mainieri’s best coaching jobs. And others want him fired this year if LSU doesn’t make it to Omaha. No wonder the guy appears overly stressed in the dug out.

No one that knows baseball thinks a season is done in mid-april.

Nah.

Anyone who knows baseball was discouraged/disappointed by how we had played to that point but recognized a season's success is ultimately defined by how the team performs in the postseason. No team is done until they're actually done. That isn't sunshine pumping or being unrealistic, it's just a fact.

How many years in a row will it take before people realize that Mainieri always seems to have them peaking at the right now? "Many who know baseball" don't seem to pay attention to history.
