Skip Bertman made LSU baseball what it is today. It was nothing in the 70's and early 80's. Mainieri is a benefactor of Skip's achievements.

No way. If there is more parity in college baseball now, it's because no one is dominating the way LSU did in the 90's. There is no reason that someone couldn't put together another dynasty like that today, but it's an incredibly difficult and incredibly rare thing to do, so who knows if we'll ever see another. Maybe it's a little harder to win the CWS today now that we have 64 teams instead of 48, but that's a pretty small difference, and Bertman won his last title under the 64 team format anyway.
Bertman was the right man for the right time. And now Mainieri is certainly one of the best current coaches in college baseball, but Bertman built LSU baseball from the ground up.
