He'll probably never been the pure cover guy Deion was, but he could be a Charles Woodson type with elite athleticism. A lot of scouts say they have similar instincts...

Also, why are people saying "Deion was a freak" and not acknowledging that Peterson weighs roughly 25-30 pounds more than him and doesn't run much slower...

If you think they're comparable then you weren't old enough to watch Deion in college, fact.
This is true, and absolutely no insult to Peterson. Neon Deion was on another level than any other corner that ever played. Was he good at run support? Hell no. But as a cover corner nobody comes close. Not Woodson, not Revis at his best, not Woodson in his prime, nobody.

And that's fine. Lebron isn't on the same level as Michael Jordan either. It isn't a putdown on JBJ, it's just true. And it doesn't mean LBJ isn't the best in the game today, it means he isn't Jordan at his prime.

Peterson will do fine.

Wow. Patrick Peterson is like the second coming of Charles Woodson in my opinion. Very versatile, will have a good stretch of years where he is a top cover corner, but his versatility is where he will excel.

The man-crushes all of you fanboys have on PP7 are hilarious. Deion was the greatest corner of all time from a shutdown standpoint. You could also argue that he was the best pure returner of all time, although he did not get the touches that other players have gotten.

Moreover, although Deion was not a "hitter", he got his man on the ground more times that not just the same.

The more appropriate comparison for PP7 would probably be Rod Woodson. Woodson displayed great cover skills as well as hitting ability.

I agree that he isn't the same cover guy as Deion. Nobody is. I do think with his tackling ability and size he is a lot like Charles Woodson. The crazy thing is he might slip down in the first round. If the 49ers are able to steal him look out. Browns could make a nasty secondary if they grab him to team with Haden.

Deion never really had to tackle. The passes were usually incomplete or intercepted.

CBs have responsibilities on running plays also though. No one is worried about running at someone like Deion

So no one can think Lsu players are great anymore? You're right about one thing though, he's a lot more like R.Woodson than Sanders, who actually is the greatest corner of all time.

How many World Series do you think Patrick Peterson will play in? That should end your argument about comparing Peterson with Deion's "athleticism".

Deion had another gear that Peterson doesn't possess. Sanders had the ability to close on the ball quickly & he used that ability at times to bait QB's into throwing INT's. I don't see that ability in Peterson's game.

Deion also returned punts & kickoffs his entire time at Florida State, so he had a larger resume of returning kicks on the college level. Peterson only returned kicks during his Junior season. Both were explosive but with different styles.

Because Deion played at lighter playing weight, it allowed him to have more fluid moves in the open field. In no way shape or form am I saying Peterson is stiff, I'm just saying Deion was more shifty in the open field.

Both have/had special athletic gifts that we normal people don't have. If you are looking for CB to compare Peterson to then it would have to be Darrelle Revis. Revis plays very physical & he's able to jam receivers at the line of scrimmage because of strong upper body strength. He also has great footwork which allows him to stay in a receiver's hip pocket & not give the QB a large throwing window.

I can see PP playing that same style in the NFL. What will separate PP from Revis though is PP ability in the return game. He's going to give an added boost on special teams to whoever drafts him.

Patrick Peterson more like Charles Woodson or Rod Woodson? Any other Woodson's?

I never stated any differently.

Rod and Charles, both good comparisons.

I was talking about pure physical athleticism though... and the notion that Deion was out of this world better than Peterson as an athlete is a bit silly...

I know, they're making it sound like Deion is like the Russian from Rocky IV. Well Rocky beat the Russian, remember that, Rocky beat the Russian. And baseball's stupid.

Look kids, Deon has done it against the best of the best all time receivers in the NFL. PP has shut down a few good college WR's and also got toasted by a few.

PP's measurables are freakish, but that translating to him being mentioned as possibly having a better career than Deon is just DUMB!

PP will now be responsible for guarding all pro receivers thrown to by all pro QB's EVERY week with the best OC's in the world sceeming on how to isolate and defeat him.

PP is great, but look for next year to be a learning experience for him and nothing more. After next year, then maybe we will get to see him progress into being a great NFL corner. Then durability/injuries will decide his career stats and fame.

I've got news for you. Just because Deion Sanders played baseball doesn't make him more "athletic". Playing baseball doesn't require a whole lot of athleticism.....and that's coming from a guy who played baseball professionally. Generally, athleticism is the combination of speed, strength and agility.

I don't think there is any question that Deion was a better cover corner and PP a better tackler. I think they have pretty similar ball skills. I also think that since the primary function of CB is to cover fast WR's that Deion would probably be considered a better CB than PP. But PP's inferiority to DS as a cover corner is not nearly as great as DS's inferiority as a tackler. In that respect, I think PP is a better overall corner.

I love how there is some myth that QB's never threw to Deion's side of the field. They used to love running screen passes to his side of the field.

All I've stated is that PP is a freak. And it's true. I never said anything about he being Deion's peer as a corner

Not only did Deion not tackle, but he whiffed purposely so he wouldn't even take a hit. There is no doubt about it, he will probably not be duplicated in the cover skills, speed, and return ability, but he comes back down to earth talking about the best overall. My vote would be Rod Woodson.

I found it funny that Deion was "injured" on the thanksgiving day game against the Vikings.

He knew Moss would embarrass him.

Based on what? Man you guys just get out of your minds over LSU athletes sometimes. There isn't a professional football player alive or announcer or sports writer that would take PP over Deon (10 yrs ago)!! NOT ONE!
