We need to air it deep more

I agree, Ace. I think we have talented receivers, but for some reason they haven't played up to their potential yet. I am hoping we will see some pitch and catch Saturday night to get prepared for the match in the Swamp next Saturday. I still say the Florida game will show us exactly where we stand as a team, way moreso than the Auburn game!

When many fans and sportswriters around the country thought that the co-defensive coordinators wouldn'tt work....they didn't!
When many fans and the media thought that Jefferson wouldn't lead LSU to a NC....he didn't!
It's funny how anytime an article paints LSU in a positive light, its considered a "good" read or the writer has always been a "favorite". When it's vice versa, most fans take issue and consider the writer an idiot or simply states they don't "know" what they are talking about.
Fact is there are A LOT of people that know "enough" about football to know when they see problems with teams. If anyone here really don't think that 12 points against AU, or the lack of a true passing game is a problem for LSU, then it will be a loong season for you.
AU was the 1st game that LSU could not just line up and run completely over their opponent. This will become even tougher against better opponents that play better defense and have a better offense that will bring the added pressure of needing to score.
And YES! There will be an inevitable showdown with Bama, and without a doubt every game that both teams play will be scrutinized and looked at as an example of play to come when they meet.
Bama simply looks better currently than LSU does. Come November, who knows? But most think that Bama can improve just as much as LSU. Stop putting blinders on when judging LSU football. Our passing game is a glaring weakness, as well as our secondary not being as good as last year.
We can still beat Bama if we improve.

in the preseason, even miles himself said we would see a more vertical offense, and that's what people, pundits, writers were expecting.
And we have seen it. The receivers have either dropped the passes or failed to get separation quite a few times this season.

Zach Mettenberger is off to a modest start (he's thrown for fewer than 200 yards in three of four games).
Mettenberger isn't ASKED or EXPECTED to throw for 300-400 yards per game. He is doing what he is asked, and for the most part has done well at it. I hate when people comment on things that they do not understand.
This. I don't understand why people think you have to throw for 300+ yards to be a good QB. When we're throwing it for 300-400 yards it means we're doing poorly and trying to come from behind more than likely.

Nothing is wrong, we are 4-0. Everything's perfect. Stop bitching folks

They don't.
Did either one of you actually read the article?
Mainly this part:
Part if it is a byproduct of the type of the conservative, run-first offense Miles wants to run. But Alabama takes much the same approach, and the Tide's quarterback, AJ McCarron, is currently the nation's fourth-rated passer. And it's not like LSU doesn't have talented receivers. It's had them in the past and it has them again now.

Exactly, I am over joyed to see the rant recognizing what is going on. Mettenbergers arm has been as advertised. His throws are very accurate. Nothing about ZM is holding back LSU from putting up huge numbers in the passing game. Half of it has been by design... not running up scores and the other half had to do with simply winning a game and fixing the problems AFTER the win instead of taking unnecessary risk during a game and jeopardizing a victory.

Why are you guys so defensive? He isn't dogging Mett. He's more critical of the system, which most of you have been critical of. Reading is fundamental.

Mett hasn't been perfect but the receivers have really let him down on many occasions this year. Our line woes haven't helped much either. It's frustrating that we have to talk about this already. If you look back he's doing ok....needs to improve some, but I think it's gonna happen.

Person #2 who didn't read

LSU football stats through 4 games, go to Dandy Dons site and read the comparison from this years numbers to this years. Jarrett Lee was very efficient and the offense was much better when in the red zone. People forget how last years momentum was destroyed when a certain player came back and took over most of the practice snaps. Also Mett was playing clean up in the early games. It wasn't just last years team that suffered from this poor judgement. Mett lost half of the valuable snaps in practice too!

Isn't this rendered irrelevant if Mettenberger is completing close to 70% of his passes?

And that is exactly the writers point. It's Mile's system. I've been saying if for two weeks now, our passing game is High School simple. They obivioulsy don't spend a shite load of reps on the passing game at practice.

two fricking words: dropped passes
Two more words: Shitty protection.
Add both together and you can say that Mett is probably playing much better than expected.

FIFY
180+ on the ground over 4 yds/carry on the road. LSU lined up and ran over AU. Penalties and untimely drops are what hurt us the most. Not Mett's play. He wasn't perfect, but he was about where I would expect a player making a first SEC road start and 4th overal start be. The OT had a rough game, and the WRs dropped at least 3 that hit them in the hands. Those aren't issues with Mett.

If you want to compare apples to apples, you might want to go back and look where McCarron was ranked last year in his FIRST 4 games as a starting QB and compare those stats and rankings to where Mett is now after his first 4 starts.

That's an insult to the good high school teams who go 4-wide.

3 of our 4 games were over in the 3rd quarter.
