and that promotion belongs to Dave Aranda.

I don't know where people on this board get this idea. The guy has never recruited a whole team and has not run a team at any level. He is a great specialist coach and I like him a lot. He may become a great HC someday but he has no experience.

HC is the CEO of the program. He is not a position coach, a coordinator, or a tactician. He is the palm squeezer to the public, head fisherman for recruiting, and coordinator of all functions of the team both operations and coaches...

This is like saying your best cardiologist is the man to run the hospital.

I am in the 'anyone but Les' camp.. I genuinely think that almost anyone could do better than Les with the exceptional talent we have thanks to the fence that Saban erected around Louisiana... My one exception would be Lane Kiffin; obviously he'd improve our offense 1000x, but everything else about him makes my skin crawl.. I honestly don't know if I could continue to be an LSU fan if he is hired.. I'd be fine with promoting Aranda, but I'd be happier with Orgeron.

A name to look out for is Todd Graham at ASU. Fits the mold of prior experience at power 5. Also, I am going to throw out David Sutcliffe, not because I want him, but because Alleva (and the admin) seems like he always wants to make the safest choice.

If we can't land Herman, and we assume we burned the bridge with Fisher, what then?

Pray that the 49'ers go 0-16.

Most great coaches are a coordinator of some sort.

To actually be worse than Miles, the coach will have to not only be a worse recruiter, but also as bad at game day coaching and schemes

First off, that coach will very likely be a worse recruiter.

Sure, he'll be a better coach. That's not really what I'm getting at. This team will lose Fournette, Dural, Dupre, Pocic, Neal, Beckwith, White, Adams. Potentially returning 4-5 starters on offense and 4-5 starters on defense. 2017 was never supposed to be a super year for LSU.

The biggest reason, in my opinion, that Miles was able to step in and continue the success Saban had in the mid-2000s was because he inherited a stacked team and was able to continue strong recruiting. However, as you know, that isn't a normal occurrence in these situations. Far from it.

We play on the road against Alabama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee next season. If 2017 is indeed a "rebuilding year" for LSU, and we go 6-6 or 7-5 with our new coach, I think it will be a lot harder to sustain recruiting success.

It's not "living in fear" or whatever you want to call it. If the season continues with more of the same crap we saw in Game 1, and we lose 4-5 games this year, Miles should absolutely be fired. Period. Very few people would disagree with that. But yes, it is a scary time. Look how long Texas and Tennessee have stayed down. And those two schools have a lot of the same advantages that a school like LSU does.

If LSU fires Miles, it is LIKELY that they will struggle for at least a couple of seasons to turn things around. That's what I don't think people realize.

Best case scenario is LSU somehow turns it around and wins 10 games, maybe the West... And then Miles retires.

Texas yes, but Tenn not at all. They have an awful in state recruiting base

So yes, Texas struggled. But on the other hand, Bama and FSU couldn't be happier with their decisions

That possible scenario is why it made sense to fire Miles after 2015.

O would make an excellent head coach if he hired an innovative OC. A Louisiana man to coach a Louisiana team.

And the F. King factor.

Alleva hasn't been good hiring coaches in the first place. Imagine if his hands are tied.

Dabo isn't coming here. He is staying at Clemson until Saban retires and will take over at Alabama.

If we are talking only about coaches with HC experience I think our first two calls are to Herman and Fisher. If I was a betting man, I don't think either of them accept our offer. I think we then start looking at coaches like Fedora and Mora. I think Fedora would come. I'm not sure about Mora.

I also think we show some interest in Kiffin. I wouldn't be upset with that hire.

A risky choice that has the potential to be a disaster but could also pay off is Major Applewhite. Hometown kid that would come in a heartbeat.

No reason LSU should have to settle on a coach who hasn't had success as a HC.
