You might want to clarify Freshman Ott vs. Senior Cotton

Ott in his freshman year was "performing" better, but Cotton has more potential and over the life of his career has more value IMO

Cotton has had about a good a 2 year run as a reliever can possibly have in 2012 and 2013 so far

There aren't many that were better than Ott as a freshman. He was never quite the same after that. Cotton has been consistent his whole career, although he was only the "closer" this season.

Ott wasn't the same after Mainieri spent a season jerking him around between the closer role and starting him. That was one of his few tinker moves that really backfired.

If Cotton is as clutch as Ott was in Omaha, then give me Cotton over Ott no matter which year

Never would I have thought this kid would have the year he's currenting having. He's not a prototypical closer and yet he's been highly effective in that role.

Yep. When PM decided to start him against Florida because Ott threw those 5 relief innings against Bama, he was never the same after that. Mainieri was desperate that year as we were on a losing skid and needed another starting pitcher badly. When some on the rant were calling to start Cotton at some point in the SEC tourney I had immediate Ott flashbacks.

Cotton has been successful in many roles. He could be a successful as a starter if we needed him there IMO. Kid has been the closer, setup man, long relief. He has that bulldog mentality that Ott lacked.

I sat with the Florida families in game 1 at The Box a couple years ago. We were pumped when Ott came in the game and one of their Dad's was as well. He said the report was out on Ott and he couldn't throw 3 strikes. Just don't swing and he'll walk you. I laughed and said he was full of shite. And then...
