Well after 2008 they pretty much lost their elite status and is just now getting close to it again.. I have seen some that have them rated as high as # 2 preseason.. A little high IMO........

I get it that a lot of posters here are simple minded, but one would think that at some point they could grasp some simple notions:
Such as: Expressing concerns or outright opinions that DaCoach O was unqualified to be selected as head coach does NOT equate to:
1) Hatred for The Orgeron;
2) Love for Miles;
3) A desire to re-hired Miles;
4) A negative attitude toward the program;
5) A lack of support for the program

oh my bad, I forgot there are no elite teams out side the SEC because I'm pretty sure there is no team in the last 15 years and maybe even ever that's outside the SEC take could compete in the SEC according to some posters on this board

Don't be a smart arse.... USC is good, but playing in the PAC 12 is way easier than the SEC... that rose bowl win showed me enough.... the defense was horrible....

O's career record as a head coach ( acting or perm) will be above .500 at the end of the 2017 year, with a very positive trend line. To use a metaphor, his stock is rising.

You can't use interim wins in your calculation. An interim head coach uses the prior coach's players, coaches, scheme, etc. It's not his program, where he's responsible for EVERYTHING in the program. An interim's primary job is to keep the team intact emotionally. Admittedly, O did a good job as interim, in both cases, but it's nowhere near the same as being permanent head coach.

Hell, if Saban died and they made me the interim HC, I'd have a very good record.

You said "Coach O" thirteen times in one post. So in addition to being incredibly repetitive, you've probably jinxed the motherfricker too.

Would you agree playing in the Big XII is way easier than the SEC? Yet Texas A&M after going 6-6 their last year in the BigXII went 11-2, 6-2 in the big bad SEC West. Missouri a mediocre at best Big XII team historically joins the SEC and goes 7-1 TWICE!.

I point this out, not to disparage the SEC (though most SECtards take it that way) but to illustrate
a couple of points. Namely conferences don't play games, teams do. When you say the SEC is tougher, you are looking at the conference as a whole, but there are 14 teams and you only play 8 games, so you can get a easier schedule in the SEC in a given season. I mean if Missouri, MISSOURI can go 7-2 in the SEC then clarly USC (or Ohio State or Clemson or Florida State) can as well in a given season.

maybe, but judging based only on bowls, than Bama's defense has given up 44, 42, 40 and 35 in their last game the last 4 seasons, sooo maybe USC's d is bad or maybe it was a bowl game and an anomaly against a really good offense.

In any event USC right now is better than everyone in the SEC except Bama.

That's not true Miles wasn't expected to win 11 or more games every year. Since Mett left there hasn't been a season where I and most normal ppl expected more than 9 wins. The anti-O crew is saying O should be fired if he loses more than 1 game after this season with a handful saying 2 games. Both are ignorant statements and at least 2 games more than what was predicted for Miles over the past 3 seasons.

Nonetheless, it is very obvious that had Coach O been given his fourth and final year of his contract, as he had been promised, that Coach O would have started winning at that point with those very excellent players that he had personally recruited and brought to Ole Miss, and in all probability Coach O would still be the Ole Miss head coach to this day.

Holy... shite...

I know you and I have had some err disagreements lol. So let's put that aside for the moment. I am not a fan of the Ed O hire, however I would never suggest a coach should be fired for losing 1 or 2 games in a season and don't know any reasonable person that would no matter how little they think of the coach. While i don't like the hire I wouldn't want a coach fired after just 1 year unless it was a total disaster (3-9) other wise he should be given 3-4 years to see where the program is headed.

I'm not sure I've seen this, and I surely haven't said that. Most want to hold him to the 10 win standard the last coach was expected to achieve. I have seen O supporters say 8 wins would be ok this season, though.

Totally agree here. Yes of course if he falls flat on his face he should be gone. If you go into these coach O threads you'll see over 70% of the anti-O ppl saying what I was talking about. One thing that ppl are ignoring about what happened to Miles is where the program was when he got here compared to where he took it. See standards were higher for him because of the roster I mentioned and the championships prior to his arrival. Miles had great success here but he also brought the program down before he left so this altimatum given to O is based on an idea of LSU that is attached to what we were over a decade ago when it should be based on our current state. Btw I don't hold any grudges ppl disagree so don't have any apprehension when engaging me no hard feelings at all.
