Orgeron is a brilliant evaluator of talent. At LSU, I can only recall one time he boasted

About a player and really missed the mark. That player was Giles in 2018. Just about every other time he brags about a player in advance of them playing significant snaps, he’s usually spot on. I think talent evaluation is Orgeron’s greatest strength.

I also think he’s a great speaker.

Doesn’t get any better than “Roll Tide what? frick you!”

I think Giles had a form of the yips, the stage was too big for him. He definitely showed he had talent at Texas Tech along with the hype you mention from coaches at LSU. He was overthinking everything to the point he could barely function.

His praise for Ensminger is the only thing he really says that makes cringe, considering the moves he has made the last two years to insure the offense is functioning at a 2020 rate

Yea Giles struggled and seemed in over his head with the other talent we had at receiver but hes not nearly as bad as he looked in those few games he played here. I think he would’ve benefitted from playing in the 2019 offense in the slot. (Although he wouldn’t have actually played over Jefferson of course) where he got easier catches and didn’t have to face any press man really and could’ve been more open like he was used to at Tech.

Yes I know, my point was the offensive scheme in 2019 is night and day different from 2018. It made life easier on everyone and put the defense at a disadvantage #’s wise trying to cover everyone and it’s a reason that Jefferson always seemed to get wide open from the slot and led the country in receptions. (Obviously Jefferson is light years better than Giles but that’s not the point) not saying Giles would’ve been a standout by any means but he would’ve looked a lot better in the 2019 version of LSU than he did in the 2018 one.

I don’t remember that about Narcisse but I’ll take you at your word. Still very prolific at talent evaluation. I’d be willing to bet big $ that Bradford, Roy, and Todd Harris will at least be all SEC.

Giles was an average athlete at this level.

I love his brutal honesty. In the playoff up 49-14 against OU, he was asked, "Coach, is Clyde done for the rest of the day?" Ed: "Yeah, prolly so."

I'm excited about all those players, but I'd take THAT action!

It was 2 years after that...that was right after we lost at Bama in 2017. Who knew 2 years later the prophecy would be fulfilled at that very place

By all accounts, the season before when Giles wasn't eligible to play but still practiced with the team, he really tore it up. So it wasn't only Orgeron alone, as it was everyone involved in that decision process. As the decisions with respect to who wears number 7 or number 18 are consensus decisions.

you kind of have to treat QBs differently.

consider this timeline

May 18': pursues & signs Joe Burrow

Aug 2 18': calls Narcisse most talented QB in room

Aug 14 18': Naricsse transfers

The writing was on the wall and his view of the QB room probably was not what he was leading on to be. (McMillian transferred the same week as Lowell fwiw)
