So because I pay $50 a year to TAF, I can get LSU sanctioned if I go up to a recruit while wearing LSU gear and tell him I want to see him in purple and gold? Doubt it.

Don't make up shite arse hole.

If you bump into him tell him what you like. Don't go phoning him or to his school or home. Doesn't matter what you think.

Taken from a letter from Samford Universty concern recruiting violations.

Boosters
Representatives of the University’s athletics interests (i.e., boosters, alums) are not allowed to be involved in recruiting a
prospect. If, during an official visit, you and the recruit come into contact with a booster or alum, the conversation must be
limited to an exchange of greetings, and you should then excuse yourself and the recruit immediately

Honestly, i would be creeped out if an unemployed Coach O was just calling me to build a relationship.

Posted by KG5989 I've heard that too... Specifically when it comes to CeCe Jefferson. Suppsoedly Ed O has a great relationship with him.

No offense, but you must not be-- or have ever been-- a highly regarded recruit for a sport.

Blue chip prospects are constantly contacted by various adults they don't know: coaches, assistants to coaches, boosters, journalists, supposed talent scouts and other potential influencers who think they may gain personally if they can get close. Players have had to become increasingly savvy about filtering this attention and learning to judge the character of these various people to gauge who really has their best interest in mind.

As for Coach Orgeron, there is nothing wrong with him keeping tabs on talented players and making himself available to provide guidance to them over the past year while he has been otherwise unemployed. It was smart of him--even if LSU had no intention of hiring him. Orgeron planned on coaching again, so he was simply keeping his network of influence up to date, so when the next coaching opportunity presented itself, he would be in a good position to already know the lay of the land recruit-wise for the next couple of years. In fact, I would think less of him if he weren't keeping his network up to date this past year... I'd think him lazy and insincere with regards to actually caring about any of them.

Please note: I'm not calling Coach O a saint. Many of the best salesmen and recruiters resort to bending the rules and employing the occasional dirty tactic, but the best also genuinely want to help their prospects and clients and will work hard to help them succeed. I think Coach O fits that mold, which is why recruits & players respect him and play hard for him.

Coach O being the EWE of recruiting, and that's a good thing? Do remember that EWE finally got convicted & served 11 yrs in the Federal pen. I trust CLM to keep a tight leash on Oregron when it comes to recruiting outside the box, but at the same time, I would guess LSU will be hiring additional compliance officers just in case.

EE was a bit harsh as an analogy. The EE of recruiting would be Trooper Taylor. O is crafty, not a criminal

Please they already have our coaches on a tighter leash than most SEC schools.

Les might not be the best game day coach, but the old dude is smarter than most give him credit for...There is always a method to his madness...

I absolutely give him credit for having a timeline that coincides with the dead period ending but guys, don't act like he just cured cancer this line of thinking was a no brainer.

The burden of proof would be on the NCAA. They would have to prove not only that he was talking to recruits but that he had been offered a job. Even then he hadn't signed his name anywhere yet. The NCAA would be chasing shadows.

This! NCAA can't even prove that Cam's dad took the $180K or Johnny Football getting paid for autographs. You really think they could prove O was recruiting before he had the job?

Orgeron is not an alum, nor had he ever worked in and "official" capacity for LSU prior to today.

You really are reaching.

Well with coach O you can always claim all discussions were "lost in translation."

So they had a face to face conversation with Bebe and took a gamble on letting him recruit and signing him today. If there was anything signed or agreed to before today that he would coach at LSU, THEN YES, the NCAA could punish as they saw fit.

I definitely remember reading shortly after the bowl game where a poster claimed he saw Miles, Wilson, and Orgeron sitting somewhere drinking and laughing together. So maybe this is all how it really went down.

maybe, but pretty sure the dead period has been in effect up to today. So he can't "legally" recruit.

Your one clueless dude.

I never said anything about Coach O as in anything official or un-official.
No one can legally recruit, official or not during the dead period. I never said he did or didn't.
I said no one can legally recruit during the dead period. You have comprehension issues.
