Optimism Surrounding LSU Athletics

I had the privilege to represent my company at the LSU Alumni 2023 Sports Kickoff Banquet tonight. Hunt Palmer interviewed a majority of the university’s head/associate coaches (not including football and baseball), but the momentum surrounding LSU athletics is a cause for optimism. It really feels like we are in a golden age for LSU sports. I know a majority of it was Coach’s speak and telling the fan base what they want to hear, but they all spoke on how right now is the time for LSUs brand to exponentially grow and I couldn’t be more excited for the future

Even he seemed optimistic about what he brought in and feels the pressure due to success in other programs, so hopefully this is a good turnaround

I would prefer to say that instead of athletics, we are on a strong upward academic direction. much more important.

For a place like LSU, that starts with branding from athletics. The benefits of that can help improve academics. Look at what Bama has been able to do.

WBB and baseball just won national championships, what better recruiting tool is there than that? Football is the major brand for LSU, and that's coming on strong as well. A lot to be excited for.

We never were a basketball power house blue blood program. It is disappointing to not have a contender year after year but I sure loved seeing some of the dominating kids that were here. We don’t have much of that any more. I was a young kid when I saw PP play. I was in the service when the Diesel shook my hand after a game. I only saw tip of my thumb going up and down. To see all of the team’s success's is great in my middle ageness. But since Baseball and football are my favorites I’ll settle for that and the sporadic other ones thrown in.

And by that I mean if he would've been paying players during NIL then he'd still be here. And we'd still be on the up & up.

IDK how Baton Rouge does it. As a dad of a Jr. with SEC offers I just don’t see what that ‘whole package’ is for LSU. I guess LSU is enough. I went there for 8 years.
We toured the town and campuses of 5 SEC schools this summer and damn, some of them are nicer than I gave credit.

Unfortunately for the Will Wade Fan Boys, that’s not how NIL works. If HE would have been paying players it would have still been a violation (especially if he was still stupid enough to do it out of a personal checking account).

Yep. Given Will Wade’s stupidity and the recent NC’s along with football’s upward trajectory, Scott Woodward can take as long as he needs and wants to fix men’s basketball, for all I care.

As a city, Baton Rouge gets a bad rap on this board and from fan bases around conference. Lets face it, most of that comes from white upper/middle class males who make up the majority of these type boards. I fit in that group, and honestly, I would despise moving back to my home town of BR. But if you put yourself in the shoes of an 18 yr old black kid who went to a large or inner city high school (I'm guessing 7 of 10 kids we recruit match this demographic), Baton Rouge is a LOT more familiar than say Tuscaloosa, Athens, or College Station.
I'm not trying to start a political debate or judge anyone, but on average most people have a higher comfort level when their surroundings resemble the familiar.

Where would the academic side be without the $100 million its receives from the athletic side for the last 20 years. You seem like a nerd so you should be able to see what kind of money that is. So please stop bashing sports because it isn’t your thing. It plays a major if not the most important part of LSU as a whole.
