I didn't remember that a 8-3-1 record gets you a major New Year's Day bowl birth.

Yes it was. It was 1970.

Agreed. I was at both games.

8-1-1 at the time. Nobody expected us to shite the bed against Tulane.
Would have been 9-2-1 had Clay Parker not decided on his own to take off running on 4th and 19.

People selling bags of oranges on the side of Nicholson
I couldn't understand how students were allowed to walk in with bags of oranges when people knew full well what they intended to do with them. Security was lax back in those days. It was actually quite hazardous for people on the field...players kept their helmets on! Several cheerleaders were hit.. probably no accident...they eventually gave up and ran for cover.

It still cracks me up that they let so many people in with bags of oranges.
It was wonderful!

I was there as an eight year old asking my dad what the hell was going on

I remember Sports Illustrated the next week called him "Feet of Clay" Parker.

It was a beautiful thing to behold!

My freshman year at LSU. Still ranks as one of the greatest game experiences - eerie fog and flying oranges.

I was 8 and that was an amazing game to experience with my father. Oranges flying everywhere.
I was in my first year at LSU. That was probably the fourth LSU game I attended. What a night!
