I upvoted you solely because you didn’t try to make escape ability into a single word. From the bottom of my heart and soul, thank you.

D Lewis was a grown man and beat the hell out of people, while growling.

Cushenberry is much better than Shanahan.

Charles when he played is much better than Wire or whoever theyre going to throw out there this weekend.

Hell, McGee was better than most of these guys as well. That Vanderbilt play is an all-timer.

That was a good line and with Burrow, heck they couldve went undefeated possibly.

Look, I am on the Burrow train, but to say he made them look ALOT better than they were is false. Hell, 2-3 of those lineman saw significant playing time as rookies in the NFL. So maybe, just maybe, those guys were pretty damn good also.

Well several O linemen from 2019 are in the NFL. Plus Joey B was a master of pocket manipulation. Add to that a tight end who could block while also catch, a running back who could read zone blocks, and play calling that hid weaknesses, and you’ve got a much better offense even without a ton more talent on the line itself.

Joe Burrow- getting ball out quick, moving the pocket, scrambling when necessary.
CEH- picking up blitzes like a pro, catching lots of check downs
Joe Brady/Slinger- calling plays that that counteracted the blitzes.

Damien has an amazing story. Cush wasn't a highly rated recruit (going off memory).

So not criticizing them but none of them looked remotely draftable after the '18 Bama loss. Hmmmm.

Hearing the fans talk, you would think we would be giving up sacks left and right and way more than we gave up in 2019

More talent. Extremely talented and competent center who was on the same page as the QB calling out protections.
Cush is sneaky my favorite player from that team.

It was just a better o-line altogether, in a really good system with really good skill players around them, then they were gone and nobody had been developed.

Our left tackle was Saahdiq Charles. He is way better than Cam Wire or his backups.
Our left guard is probably a little better than in 2019.
Our center was far better than this year’s
Our right guard was a friggin stud. I like Hines, but he is not nearly as good as Lewis was.
Our right tackle is the same guy.

So 2019 was significantly better at three positions, while 2021 is slightly better at one position. Very simple.

Dare is better than Charles. Had we not lost him, these two lines would not be that far apart.

I’m not even convinced we are better at LG. We would expect Ingram to be better, given all the talk about him as a future NFL guy after he was reinstated while Magee didn’t make an NFL roster.

But Magee was 2nd team all-SEC in 2019. He had a hell of a year, while Ingram hasn’t looked great so far this year.

Off season effort. Coaching. Burrow getting to the right call.

I speculate that after the Texas game.. the whole team was convinced they could beat anybody. Took all of their play to another level.

Baloney! Teams got pressure when they brought numbers. That oline was legit. Ask the professional GMs who drafted them.

Go back and watch the Bama game. Our oline dominated Bama. Clyde had gaping holes to run through, and Burrow had time, unless Bama brought blitzes.

No idea what the stats show but comparing UCLA, McNeese, and CM to our '19 schedule is apples to oranges.
