AAA is not there no more but I still have a bunch of STAFF t shirts and sweat shirts. The bouncers wore them so they did not beat each other when the fights started.

Back in the 80's The Chimes was a far cry from what it is today. First of all they did not serve food but had a great beer selection. The bar was only half the size it is today. The entrance was at the corner of Chimes and Highland, you can still see where the door was. Everything inside was painted black not at all what is there now. It was more of an alternate rock place, not the penny loafers and button down crowd.

quote:Sheeeiittt....so many great nights there. Shooting pool there was interesting when the floor got really sticky from beer. Saw the Meat Puppets and many other thrash / punk bands there. First mosh pit.
What about some love for the Bayou?
Yeah...the Chimes had bands too. Saw the Georgia Satellites there about 86.

Be sure your kids wear bulletproof gear and carry a gun or two. Have fun!

Young lady from Morganza. Police station right across the street. Tragic.

The Bayou was awesome in the late 80's. The prototype college dive bar.
My friend "Weird George" and I would hold a pool table there as long as we wanted, drinking longnecks bought by the losers. George met an Irish girl (at The Bayou) that was at LSU for a semester and ended up quitting school and going back to Ireland with her. lost touch since then.
George, dude, are you out there?

There was a place on highland in the early 70's that was by membership only. Seems like it had two stories and was across the street from the Keg. The guy who owned it had a name that started with H? They had live bands on the weekends. Anybody remember the name of the place?

Was Murphy’s the bar that was right by the movie theater?

Yeah Murphy's was the frat bar next to the UA theater. I worked at that theater freshman year. Murphy's was shut down shortly after a frat bro drank himself to death there in the mid 90s.

quote:Murphy's was the bar in the big shopping center. It closed when someone died in a fraternity hazing incident. It is making a comeback in name only. The new one is in an old house on Chimes Street a block or so from the original.
Murphy's making a comeback?

Just looked it up. Jeez that's fricking horrible.
But also noticed that piece of shite, Leslie Young, must have had a loved one with some money. They paid for a solid defense team with Mark Upton and Jim Boren. Hope he's still in prison.
