Deal Brown definitely had his weaknesses. But he came in as an unknown coach and made LSU basketball a national brand. He took over a post Maravich program that was terrible even with Pete. Under Dale Brown the program achieved success not seen before or since. Let me know the next time lsu basketball leads the nation in consecutive NCAA appearances.

Dale Brown put LSU on the map for Basketball.
I've lived in Tennessee for most of my adult life. Tennessee was a force back in the 70's. They had beaten LSU consistently so I had to endure their cocky attitude, until Dale built the program, and they hated Dale Brown.
One fan told me, due to Dale's shenanigans, he didn't think Dale should be allowed to Coach in the SEC. I told him, I felt the same about Tennessee's HC at the time, Ray Mears, but after Dale was hired and we started kicking their arse every year I didn't care who was their HC.
I ran into a young lady, TN fan, who after listening to Fans attack Brown. Spoke up and said, you quit talking about Dale Brown. He gave my brother a scholarship to college.
If you listened to Dale, he told a story about his early trip to UT. The fans were giving him hell. He stopped called over a young man who was handicapped, and asked him why he was so bitter and loud. After a conversation they became friends, Dale offered him a scholarship.
I though what are the odds. After listening to Dale tell that story on one of his weekly Radio Shows, that I would run into the guys sibling in a restaurant, and she would be defending Dale Brown.

I'm still happy he called the NCAA Gestapo Bastards.
Really? I always thought him comparing the NCAA to a group that committed the atrocities that the Gestapo did under the Nazi regime to be irresponsible and insulting to those whose lives were taken by that heinous regime.
It might have been over the top, but emotions were running high when he did so. Brown got a call from a player's mom who had to leave the team due to a cancer diagnosis and she asked if Dale would go speak at a fundraiser because her son was dying and they were running out of money. Her son asked if three of her son's best friends from the team could attend as well and when Dale told the NCAA about the situation, they told him they couldn't go because it would be breaking some BS rule regarding entertainment. Dale reiterated to them that the kid was dying and they still said no.
So he was disgusted with them, told them they'd be there, paid for the kids to fly out there himself and the NCAA didn't do anything. This is when he referred to them as Gestapo bastards. He may have went overboard, but they were cruel, hypocritical assholes.

We finished second in the SEC Pete’s senior year. We had a good team and received an NIT bid. We were not terrible then.

That was Dale. He did a lot on and off the court. Thxs for reminding me of that story.

Why do we shite on our own? Coach Brown coached at LSU for 25 years! Whatever he did to you, let it go.

lmao
nobody can make that claim. nobody. the only evidence you can go by is results and will wade shite the bed in the big game courts. what did he do in postseason play to warrant this kind of discussion? he was a great recruiter that's it.
this board has WW's cock in their throat and can't realize how dumb he was paying players the way he did on top of consistently underperforming relative to the talent levels he had at LSU. they should've been MUCH better under him. they had quite a bit of talent.

Dale Brown IS LSU basketball....

And you WW fans still want to shite on him every chance you get.
Huh? Personally I think it's the opposite. WW haters that love Dale are hypocrites imo. I love them both. Dale is the undisputed best coach we've ever had here, it's not even arguable because he knew what it took to have success here.

have such mixed thoughts about Daddy Dale. LSU basketball was fun for a decade. It's when I was young and impressionable and was a time when LSU basketball was the best game in town.
It’s really amazing how much fun all those years were without any ncaa tournament big success. Chris Jackson was the biggest star for me and my friends. You young bucks should YouTube some highlights of him.

Do you honestly think that if Will Wade had continued at LSU for another 15 years, he would have made at least 5 Sweet 16s? He would have far surpassed Dale, and probably not had his team shite the bed when they did manage to get to big games.
What is it about Wade's postseason history that suggests this to you?

This x 10000 ! Anyone who knows anything knows Dale is the biggest hypocrite there ever was . It’s not the cheating or the poor coaching under achieving teams that irk people about Dale, it’s his holier than thou attitude and attention seeking 3 decades after he was relevant . Trust me there has never been a more two faced person than Dale Brown in front of a camera as compared to in real life .

Didn't we get beat bad by a Maguire coached Marquette team.
The only tradition LSU basketball had in those days was built Brown.

Dale did not even win the SEC with Shaq, Stanley Roberts, Chris Jackson & Vernal Singleton et al. And Kentucky was on probation & not eligible. Will Perdue won it at ....Vandy I believe. And I saw the players eating at Chris' twice one season. Post games. All of them.

Dale brown was a notorious cheater. The ones that love him and hate wade are hypocrites

I do too. I guess I could have stated it better. There are a subset of guys on here who feel the need to shite on Dale Brown and a lot of them overlap the fervent Wade guys.
Cheating went on under Brown. Same with every other coach that has been here since. The difference is that Dale Brown and Johnny Jones were actually cleared of wrongdoings by the NCAA in that case, though the basketball program was not. That means Dale didn't leave any breadcrumbs. That is where Wade messed up.

Since the statutes of limitations have long played out... We used to send those athletes to Lake Chuck where they would make $20-50K every summer at an alleged marketing firm.
