Why wouldn’t we want an experienced pitcher throwing mid 90s with an extremely high ceiling? And he has two-way potential? If he wants to wear the yellow jersey, you better believe we give a fuk.
Yea we absolutely want Skenes. He'd be a huge pick up. Hopefully LSU is in the lead on that front. I'd hate to see him at Arkansas.

Of the HS recruits not taken in the first 10 rounds, 6 are in the top 65 perfect game rankings, 3 more in the top 200. If the remaining players make it to campus it’s going to be an exceptional class.

Exactly. Also, with the amount of UCL/shoulder injuries nowadays, pitchers have to take in to consideration putting another year of innings on their arm before they even get to pro ball.
I don’t know if this will seem like a weird analogy to others, but I think it’s comparable to running backs and the year to year wear and tear.

Y'all post too damned much and I'm too tired and lazy to scroll. Will Kennedy take the half mil and run or will he be a Tiger?
Posted on 7/18/22 at 10:43 pm to justsaygeaux2
He’s gone
But Shores is in and looks like Noot may be as well. That’s a big damn W

Very much so, thanks. But seriously, a half mil is chump change in New York. Might pay your rent for a few months...

Any player drafted in the first ten rounds will go pro. Kennedy had to agree to a price before he was drafted
Posted on 7/18/22 at 11:55 pm to tigerbacon
Kennedy will sign for 1-1.5 mil

I read an article months ago that said Dallas Baptist could roll out like 8 guys who throw 95 or better, LSU had like 2 or 3.
When I look at what we are potentially bringing in, I think it goes beyond a starting rotation. There are some lefties that should contribute which is a plus, but I'm also looking at the power arms we have been lacking.
Just the size of some of these pitchers is impressive. Applebey 6'8", Ackenhausen 240lb, Siravo 248lb, Bronzini 240lb, Moffett 240lb, Shores 6'8", Noot 235lb, Little 255lb and maybe Skenes 6'6" are all pretty big guys. Most of those guys are 95 plus.
Then you add Wes Johnson to the equation who has been known to increase velocity. I'm real anxious to see what he will do with some or our pitchers that are still developing.
We are now looking at a pitching staff with potential starters, closers, lefties and power arms and Jay is just getting started in my opinion. I think he will continue to improve the pitching staff in future years.
There will be some teams this coming year that will be intimidated by what we are throwing at them. We should be able to overwhelm, overpower and wear down some teams. Then they have to face our bats. I'm feeling sorry for them already.

He'd be entering his fifth year. This would be his Covid extra year. I don't know that he ever seriously entertained the idea of coming here, outside of going undrafted, and there was no way that was going to happen. But even if LSU wasn't just a leverage ploy, we all figured that if he went anywhere in the top 10 rounds that he'd sign.
This makes the pursuit of Skenes even more important. LSU, unlike this past season, is not going to have to look around the room and ask themselves "Who in here even has starter potential?". Assuming nothing crazy happens tomorrow, we look to be adding a tremendous amount of potential to the pitching staff. But outside of Hurd, who is coming off a back injury (but seems to be coming along nicely from what I understand), none of them have proven themselves at this level as a starter. Floyd is one who has shown flashes, but no consistency, as of yet.
So, for the sake of comfort, it would be nice to have Skenes, giving us two proven frontline guys, and a ton of options to fill the 3rd starter role, which, you'd think that out of all of the guys we'll have, someone will emerge. Then the rest of the young guys can develop in the bullpen for the time being. It's going to be a really young staff, but potentially very deep. Knowing that we have Wes Johnson to work with this class of pitchers has me pretty excited.

2019 freshman
2020 covid
2021 sophomore
2022 junior
2023 last eligible year, assuming he played any
The only way he would be eligible for another year after 2023 is if he redshirted which seems unlikely after playing the previous 4 years and wouldn't help his draft stock.

With another night to negotiate and find dollars, I think we still need to watch the early rounds today for guys. But even throughout the rest of the draft, if someone gets taken today it's not a certainty that they sign.

was really hoping to get on here this morning and see a bunch of "i'm going to LSU" tweets
Posted on 7/19/22 at 8:25 am to geauxtigers87
It’s going to take a least a few rounds before that starts.

Same…there’s been some cryptic hints from a few but that’s it. Guidry quoting Shores saying “let’s get it”, Noot commenting on his IG saying “let’s get it”, Brady Neal liked a couple tweets about him making it to school. Nothing directly from them though…

this thread is about LSU
sorry Project, but when Kendall Rodgers confuses his team's participant's ribbon with a tie for the gold medal...no. And Kenny, inviting yourself to share the podium doesn't make you a self-proclaimed winner, just self-proclaimed.

So don't kill me for jumping the gun, but I updated my spreadsheet to have an idea where the roster is with numbers as it stands now with the top 10 rounds being done. Looks like 48 total with 6 of them being covid Sr. I know we still have to wait out a little of today to see what happens, but seems like Johnson will have his work cut out for him to get the roster to the 35+5.
