Is it impossible for a team to improve on the field?
Two totally different seasons. I understand some of you guys don’t understand that, but this is a completely different roster and QB. Let me see the product on the field.

I'll easily admit that Herman doesn't appear to be a dragon slayer as a lot if people thought...but that doesn't make O a better choice. Canada never should've been hired in the first place with his obvious personality flaws and Os obvious ego.
So, this was a major fail by all parties involved.

Looked like a lot of the same to me, luny.

That’s fine. It’s also in the past. There’s no coach on this planet that doesn’t make mistakes. It’s insane how much LSU fans dwell on mistakes.
I still see 1/9 posted and we’re on the back end of almost a decade. DECADE

What formations & plays, specifically?
The jet sweep scored today.....O got rid of the jet sweep, god forbid.

There may have been a few different things here and there, but for the most part it looked the same to me as well. They threw the ball over the middle a little more today, but that could have been a different read by the quarterback running the same play.

Same here
The run game wasn't particularly effective averaging 3ypc. The passing game was ok, but that's not really Canadas forte.

Since I can't reply to the Herman thread I will put my thoughts here.
I always said people shouldn't judge how he does at Texas (a team who hadn't even been to a bowl game in 3 seasons) in comparison to what he would have done at LSU. I said this before he coached a single game there. I had a good idea if he struggled early that many would say we dodged a bullet..
However, they don't look improved whatsoever and he has not impressed at all.
They do currently have the #3 ranked class atm.
I am interested to see if that holds up.

Matt Canada thoughts -
I feel he is better suited as HC where he has no restraints whatsoever. Especially given his perceived reputation. He can bring in whoever he wants personnel wise and he can call whatever plays he wants with no restraints. I was extremely impressed how he would overcome some missed executions early on with some innovative playcalls. Pretty cool how he had that one guy throw a TD, catch a TD, and rush for a TD.. I believe.
We may be better off without Canada, because the HC wants to go a different route and that's fine. I just wish they never hired him to begin with. It does appear they just hired the hot name that most of the fan base wanted, but they weren't as willing to give him full control. I am definitely rooting for him to have success at Maryland this season. Mostly because of what they have been through.

It's time for O to show if LSU has improved, starting with game one.

I tend to find myself wondering if Herman would have been better with LSU's talent. But, he would have been facing better talent as well, so it may have been a wash.

Hermans biggest problem is on defense so he may have had a better jump start at LSU. But I don't think he was quite ready for the big time

It's enticing to think about his offense at OSU here with Aranda though, isn't it?
Posted on 9/1/18 at 9:40 pm to RogerTheShrubber
Interesting point.
I think His offense needs a qB and he clearly doesn’t have him at Texas.

I heard that Mary Land beat Texas last year also. Is this true?
Posted on 9/1/18 at 9:43 pm to TigerLunatik
Yeah they threw it 34 times for 42%. We never met either of those numbers last year
Posted on 9/1/18 at 9:44 pm to SportTiger1
They don’t teach stand-up in the pen. He was too busy being bent over.

I still would rather have Herman instead of O. In fact I would rather have the girl selling Girl Scout cookies instead of O.

Maybe... his QB was under pressure all day today so it's hard to tell how good he can be. He really needs to beef up the trenches
