I would put it around 1% at this point.

The chance is based on his phone breaking or losing signal on the day of the deadline and not being around other humans who have a phone he can use

Johnson said the Brewers are "still working" on signing first-rounder Brice Turang. "Obviously he and his family have to make a decision as to whether he wants to get on the field and start playing professionally, or go down to LSU and go that route," he said.

Do first rounders get to ask where in the minors they will be playing?
And for how long (roughly)?

Nah they get assigned to rookie ball like the rest.
College players taken high sometimes are able to move much quicker.

I tell him go to college. Unless he gets a disastrous injury, playing for big money is going to happen anyway. College experience is something he can’t pass up.

Even if he were to earn $100K out of college in a real job --- say he got injured --- it would take 20-30 years to take the signing bonus, even if it is just $3,000,000. You take the money and the security.

The only way that happens is with a disastrous injury, which I already stated.
The young man will make 7 figures from pro ball.
He can go play some stupid minor league stuff with no fan base and no memories... or he can go to college and get an experience few get to have. Whether that's at LSU or somewhere else with a big college following.
I'm advising my kid to be patient and enjoy his youth and the college experience. The big money is coming.
But that's me. You can do it differently.

and those happen
or minor injuries smaller injuries happen close to the draft and hurt your ranking
Those happen too.
At least he isn't a pitcher,

What’s his deadline again?

If we're going the Oceans 11 pinch route, I'm in.
I'll be the Elliot Gould character, minus the good looks.

This only makes sense if you are saying the college experience is only worthy if you are 18 and not 24. He can take the 3.5 mil, flame out or get hurt, and still pay to go to almost any college in the country that has a better academic pedigree.
If he goes to college and gets hurt, he can finish college (but has to stay at LSU, not an academic powerhouse) and do the same thing but without the money he would have had left in the bank.
I think there are pros and cons to each choice but to choose the money alleviates some of the risk. It brings the rock bottom possibility up significantly to have a mil or two in the bank before you start your professional life.
I tell my kid to take the money every time.

Just a great class as is coming in but would be awesome to have that difference maker at SS with his bat, icing on the cake. I really want to keep Smith at 3rd base.
