rewers Total Cap Space = $5,079,800

1/21. Brice Turang (SS) (HS) - $3,013,600 – Word is his asking price is $4,500,000

2/60. Joe Gray Jr (OF) (HS) - $1,113,500 – Committed to Ole Miss - Agent Scott Boras – Word is they will sign for at least slot value, but are asking for more than slot at this time.

2/73. Micah Bello (OF) (HS) - $824,900 – Committed to St. Marys - Signed - $550,000

4/125. Aaron Ashby (LHP) (SO-JUCO) - $438,300 – Signed - $520,000

5/155. Justin Jarvis (RHP) (HS) - $327,100 – committed to UNCW - Signed - $327,100

6/185. Drew Rasmussen (RHP) (RS-SR)- $251,700 – Passed on 1st round money last year, only to have Tommy John Surgery – Will sign because he is a RS SR

7/215. David Fry (C) (SR) - $197,000 – SR catcher - signed for $10,000 - saves Brewers $187,000

8/245. Luis Gonzalez (RHP) - $161,400 – From Puerto Rico - Signed - $125,000

9/275. Albert Cipion (OF) (HS) - $146,200

10/305. JT Hintzen (RHP) - $138,200 – signed undisclosed amount (probably below slot)

Just doing the math here...

Signed Players = 1,532,100 million combined (Does not include Hintzen or Drew because no amount is known)

Let's assume Drew gets $10,000 and Hintzen gets 100,000 thats 110,000

1,642,100 would be the total so far

So if the remained three players sign for slot value, they are going to be over by almost $1,000,000 million (5,915,400)

I'm confused about how this works. So the Brewers could never sign everybody at slot value anyways? If they don't sign a top 10 round pick then they lose that cap space anyways right? Seems like they should have just drafted a bunch of scrubs they could undercut. So they could sign their top guys.

ETA: With so little money to go around trade some of their picks away. (If it works that way)

bottom line is it all comes down to the Joe Gray signing. If he signs for around slot, we are done. We need Gray to sign for 1.5 or more. Obviously the more the better.

Also at this point don’t we also have to hope that they don’t do whatever it takes to sign Turang and then do what they can on gray I mean wouldn’t they rather lose gray than Turang?

It would suck to lose Turang and have Gray not sign and be at ole miss next year

I would hope they sign Gray before Turang. It really would suck for them to sign Turang and not sign Gray who would then end up on Ole Miss’s campus.

I thought about this, and I know they are infatuated with Turang but they would probably be better off losing him than Gray unless they know he will be an mlb guy. I’m pretty sure they get 0 compensation if they lose Gray, they get the 22 pick next year if they lose Turang. That could be a factor if they really have to go overslot to get Gray.

Damn. You’d think he could’ve made it a little harder on them than that.

Looks like dude didn’t even try to negotiate.

It will be interesting to see what the rs sr signs for. The fact that he hasn’t signed yet tells you he isn’t signing a David fry contract. He’s trying to get as much as possible. And before anyone says he has no leverage, he was drafted in the top 10 rounds, he has leverage now.

He is a senior. What’s his leverage?

He could go play overseas for more than $10k. That’s pretty bad.

His leverage is, “sign me or lose your 250k slot”. If he and the brewers are 50k apart do you think they tell him to kick rocks and lose every penny that pick is worth? I’d call that leverage

I don’t think people realize there are other leagues too. It’s not common, but at worst case they can play in independent leagues for a year and get drafted the next season. They will just lose value due to age. Mark Appel got over 6M as a senior. Why didn’t the Astros tell him sign for the smallest amount we offer or get lost?

Because he was the #1 pick and it would be a terrible way to do business? He still signed below slot also.

He signed one of the biggest signing bonuses ever at that time. They offered Brady Aiken the minimum once they got the results from his physical, they don’t care what’s “bad business” they do what’s best for the team. My point is, if you are talented enough, you always have leverage. David Fry signed for 10k because he was a senior with no real pro upside and was willing to sign for anything. If he fell out of the top 10 rounds he might have fell another 10 rounds. Appel signed for a huge amount, Kyle Funkhouser could’ve been a high pick then returned to school and didn’t play well, but signed 250k overslot. They don’t just offer every senior >50k and they sign

He did sign or at least agree to terms. Any hold up if probably for physicals or waiting for final exams to finish.

I personally doubt we here anything definitive until right up to the deadline. He's going to make them sweat and get everything he can.
