Blake Dean and Chris Sorce were two highly recruited pitchers out of Florida. Dean's that summer after high school simply put went dead on him, meaning fastball down to the mid 80's tops. He was given a couple at bats in practice and the rest is history.

Sorce was an all-american who came in with a 92mph fastball but that never took off and transfered after his freshman year.

He got drafted last year, but I don't remember out of what school.

He went to the Mariners in 26th round. It says Troy, he must have transfered yet again after JUCO.

Referencing Gibbs, his arm is a little overrated. But he is money- as is any catcher with a nice avg. Kind of a mix between Varitek and V-mart.

HEIGHT: 5-6
WEIGHT: 158

Second Base
Tyler Hanover (So.)*
Mason Katz (Fr.)

At 5’6 160lbs Hanover may not be seen as your prototypical second baseman. Coming out of high school he was shown initial interest, but was overlooked by teams such as North Carolina, South Carolina, ECU, and Clemson. Powerhouses that nine times out of ten get the player they prefer in their distinctive region. What they didn’t know was Hanover had always had a keen interest in playing for the flagship school of Louisiana. In Tyler’s opening season he over took Helenihi’s spot at third early in the year more so because of his bat that added both pop and speed at the end of a dangerous lineup. Moving over to second base brings a much needed smile to his face; it’s his natural position and at times struggled at the hot corner. I look for Hanover to hit about 10 homeruns this season which may surprise people, but what should not surprise everyone is the bat speed he has and gap to gap power for his smaller frame. Mason Katz a freshman out of Jesuit HS had one of the top five performances in fall practice and even though scrappy may not be the best adjective to describe him this early in his career he simply gets the job done. I don’t see him redshirting due to limited depth in the infield which will garner him multiple at bats early on in the season to prove his worth.
Grade: C+

I won't believe it. It'll look like 140 mph to Dean.

Good read. Looking forward to the other positions, especially pitching. Big Bertuccini fan.

Thanks, I think his bat is gonna be better than a "3", think he'll be alot better at 2nd base this year too. People forget he didn't make an error in high school at 2nd base.

Mason Katz may have lived in Mandeville (I don't know) but he went to high school at Jesuit.

He's better than this imo. Playing out of position hurt him last year, but at 2B he will be very very solid. He can make some spectacular plays at times and will not have the errors he had last year.
