One glance at the @PFF ratings and it's clear #LSU has a lot to love at DB this season.
The NFL film grading experts at Pro Football Focus have broken down every game from the past season.
Here are the top-rising sophomores in the SEC on the defensive side of the ball, based on their PFF grade with a minimum of 100 snaps.
Seven sophomores to watch on SEC defenses
1. Andraez Williams | Cornerback | LSU
PFF Grade: 86.3
After redshirting in 2016, Williams made an impact immediately as a redshirt freshman in 2017. The former 247Sports Composite four-star notched six interceptions in his debut season in Baton Rogue and added 38 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss. Pro Football Focus ranks Williams as the No. 7 returning cornerback in all of college football.
3. Eric Monroe | Safety | LSU
PFF Grade: 78.9
The Houston native is another former 247Sports Composite four-star that redshirted as a true freshman before making his Tigers’ debut in 2017. Monroe appeared in six games for LSU, notching 14 tackles and two pass breakups.
4. Kary Vincent | Cornerback | LSU
PFF Grade: 78.6
Another Texas native that made his Baton Rogue debut in 2017. Vincent, who is currently in a battle for the starting position opposite of Andraez Williams. As a true freshman, the former 247Sports Composite four-star, Vincent appeared in four games. He finished the season with nine tackles, one pass breakup, and one interception.
6. Grant Delpit | Safety | LSU
PFF Grade: 77.6
Delpit racked up 60 tackles, eight pass breakups, and an interception as a freshman. Another native Texan, who was rated four-stars according to the 247Sports Composite to make an impact in LSU’s secondary.

Ready to see Delpit take a step forward this year. I think that dude is going to dominate

Delpit was probably my favorite player to watch last year. He's amazing.

Your posting philosophy seems to be just to throw shite at the wall and see what sticks. Well, this one sticks. So congrats.

I think he is VERY VERY good near the line of scrimmage. Im kind of scared to man him up with WR since he did get beat a bunch last season. Dude lays the hammer almost every play and was just a freshman... dude is gonna be special

He's a safety. Of course it's going to be a mismatch with a WR.

shall see
can't help but expect big things from this D
front 7 will stay fresh with what looks to be awesome rotation
pressure - any DB's best friend

Thank God for Texas !!! Three of the four are Texas natives and the list doesn't include K'Lavon
Chaisson who will also be a sophomore.
I'm not going to try to dispute PFF and their expertise but I am surprised to see two players that only appeared in four and six games listed over a linebacker who played in EVERY game last season.
I'm sure it has to do solely based on their grading system but I think Tyler Taylor who played in every game and had 32 tackles could have been included. He had 3 starts through Oct 21st and probably finished with more.
Jacob Phillips also played quite a bit and had 18 tackles.

I don't think anyone is concerned about our defense this year. Front should be improved with Fehoko's addition. Linebackers should be great with White and whoever wins out next to him. Pass rush got some experience without Key last year. Safety is a real strength. Corner depth might be an issue but I think Greedy + Alexander + Kirklin/Vincent will be plenty if they stay healthy.

Greedy is as good as any Cb we’ve had in a while.
Probably the best ballhawking CB since Webster.
Uncanny ability to come down with the ball in coverage. His pick vs Arkansas was an incredible catch.
I am Also amped for chaisson. If you watch him last year the athleticism is incredible. He hesitated too much but I think With a full year in the system he will be more mentally ready to just let it rip.

If I'm a slot receiver I get the flu right before the LSU game.

I was not that impressed towards the end of the year with Delpit. I think Monroe will beast out this year.

Delpit is a boss. I think he will be every bit as good as Adams was.

Delpit looks good playing close to the LOS but didn’t look as good in coverage as Adams did as a freshmen.
Adams was a beast, but I think Delpit should be very good.

Usually it's a mismatch, but he would bite too hard. Just needs to be more disciplined (will come with experience). He was definitely one of my favorite players to watch on defense.

This 'fan base" really sucks! Ya'll down vote any type of optimism regarding our program. I'm so sick of the No-O's and NegaTigers wanting us to lose so they can be proven right.

Possibly, but the defense last season had a lot of moving parts and was a work in progress most of the season. This likely resulted in Delpit and others being out of position. I expect Delpit to be much improved in coverage if Aranda has consistency with his starters.
