Like it or not, that's simply going to be a fact of his tenure.

Why?

A) Les - that's who he succeeded and who was fired for (you can fill in the blank but in a word) underachievement. It was expected of him to win more than 8-9 games/yr.
B) Saban - main competition in the SECW; pacesetter in CFB
C) Jimbo/Herman - because those are the two guys he was ostensibly hired instead of.

If he wants to be considered a "success" he's going to have exceed Les's record and beat the others on the field.

I agree with this. Curious as to what sparked you to write this right now?

IMO, the O-apologists dismiss and downplay the comparisons. And for the most part, they are not favorable comparisons at this juncture.

10 wins, a NY6 victory and finishing ranked #6 in the polls is a pretty successful season. Finishing top 5 in recruiting is pretty damn successful as well. It's only one season and it will need to continue to improve for his tenure to be considered successful. Hopefully that's what we will see in 2019 and beyond.

What exactly is there that needs to be apologized for again?

Hahahaha! I know it’s Friday, but 12:35 seems to be a little early to be completely wasted drunk. LSU never had a shot to hire either of those guys. That was either concocted by a delusional fan base or a marketing ploy by their agents to get more money from UT and A&M.

Oeaux is unjustifiably compared to 3 of the 4 coaches on your list. Les, Saban and Fisher can be compared, however Oeaux and Herman only wish to be included in the conversation...

Dammit Luny. You done gone and did it now. The lunatic fringe will be out to get you now that you've become an O sycophant and apologist.

And his first season wasn't a success. So that's why people are still not sold.

I would say we had a good season that met my expectations as far as win total. If we are going by wins, and recruiting rankings. Les' last full season was a success by those standards.

That's fine too. I mean I think some go way overboard with the praise sometimes. But, if we're gonna be critical when things go bad then it's only fair to recognize when things go well. That's all I'm saying.

And he’s by far the least competent coach from that list.

Not even close.

Did the 2015 team finish top 10 with a Fiesta Bowl type win? IMO, the difference is in the types of losses and the bowl win. It's strictly a subjective thing for each person. Everyone has their own idea of success. I do agree that we need to see some improvement in 2019 in order to keep the faith.

Perhaps.

Time will tell (and games and recruiting and rankings).

Example: in year 2 of Les's tenure, we finished 3rd. We finished 6th in O's. Not bad. But still not as good as Les.

O has his opportunity now.

Come on. Played a similar opponent. Maybe better in 15.

That would be like the rice game getting cancelled and we ended up in a bowl a tier down and still beating a decent opponent. It's the same season.

That's what I'm trying to point out. That season was considered a failure, why has it swung so much the other way?

If Ed losses to Texas and Vandy starting 2-2. Will he get fired? I doubt it.
