re: O could have kept winning had he wanted to

O reached the pinnacle and chose to enjoy the spoils instead of making the necessary sacrifices to stay at the top.

It was the fact that to sustain a championship-caliber program you have to devote almost all of your time to the job. After doing just that for a while, he achieved the absolute zenith: it was never going to get better than a perfect season with a Heisman QB and the championship in Louisiana. So he decided he didn’t want to grind anymore.
quote:
I don’t think I can really blame him.
Using your logic, he deserves a hell of a lot of blame. He took the job knowing full well the demand. Once he reached the peak and realized he didn't want to grind, he should have resigned. Especially, if his true love is LSU like he likes to say all the damn time.
Don't act like Orgeron is the victim of his own success or of some unreasonable expectations.

Strongly disagree. It’s like they talk about in the later Rocky movies - he lost the hunger.

You mean yelling "GEAUX TIGERS" wasn't going to keep us winning? Lol

Justin Wilson frowns on you.

Yeah, we all hated 2019. I can understand why O got mad that he wasn’t appreciated.
I never said fans didn’t appreciate him in 2019, but they immediately turned in 2020. He brought us the greatest season ever, lost his OC and DC and 18 NFL players the next year, played with backup QBs the last two years and had a mash unit including losing Brennan (was on same pace as Burrow when he went down), Chase, Boutte, Stingley, Ricks go down this year, and those are just the 1st/2nd rounders, while keeping us at .500 in the toughest division in college football. Fans hated him and wanted him gone. I can imagine after going through those things it was possible to develop complacency or resentment.

quote:nope. O got lucky with Burrow and Brady, but that only lasted one year. Once they left (and Aranda too), it was back on O to hire great coordinators and develop new talent.
O could have kept winning had he wanted to
And he failed miserably.

he had to have a 3rd Down playcaller "like Brady and Ensminger did it".
That is some simple minded shite. Damn

Do any of you read ? The off the field issues with player accusations…the fact that Coach O supported Trump publicly…. BLM March …. All were contributing factors for O’s dismissal. These effected player performance as well
I'm not saying this is wrong. I'm not saying any of this didn't happen.
But, it is odd that the team really fought hard for a coach that was already fired that they didn't like him for the above reasons.
Oh, well.
GEAUX TIGERS!

Also roster management is piss poor.
Don't you think that is a result of his lack of dedication to football. Too many trips to Destin when he should have been thinking of his obligations.

5 SEC teams had a winning record in 2020
Yea but how many of those 5 teams lost what LSU did after the 2019 season in terms draft eligible juniors leaving early and coaches leaving.

We should have beaten Auburn and Arky. And even though we lost to UCLA by more than 10……….we had no business losing that one either. Big difference between 9 and 3 and having to upset A&M to not have a season losing record.

What part of his career statistics - in complete form - tell you this?

That’s the exact quote I had in mind.

There was a quote from someone in the program that summed it up nicely. "O got the Natty, a divorce and a big payday, and lost himself."

He wasn’t lost. He was at the strip club with Star, and Destiny

When he ran off Aranda, he was done.

Some truth to this. The path to greatness is lonely.

And that’s why the more I think about it the more I love the Kelly hire.
He looks at Saban/Dabo/Urban/Jimbo, compares careers and recognizes the one thing he needs to be mentioned among them. He’s HUNGRY for that Natty.
