The Advocate - Harris is not an automatic fix in the troubled secondary. He has to develop, but he can only do that if he stays on the field. For Harris, that all depends on how well he continues to earn Kelly’s trust.

“He is not there yet, but I don’t know if there’s any guy I can say in our program that has got (the process) down yet.” Kelly said. “But he is committed to it.”

When I heard this comment in the presser I took it as a “no one’s perfect” kind of thing. Kelly was basically saying if the player is making an effort and is coachable, the coaches are going to work with him; if not, the player can watch from the sidelines until he falls in line (or leaves). I have no problem with the comment in context.

As long as he's not a cancer everything is GOOD.

I took it as Kelly having a very high standard, and no one has gotten there yet, sort of something Saban would say.

Your title says Nuss but the post quotes Kelly.

Think the title needs correcting.

Made me wonder if the process might not be an evolving one designed to keep coaches pets on the field despite glaring performance issues

Just political speak.

Implying that we made it to the SECCG with nobody having "the process" down yet so just imagine how high we can go once they all do!

That's what I'm learning about Kelly. He knows exactly what he's doing from a PR stand point.

At first you think "wow, this guy is on top of everything and really knows what he's doing." But eventually it starts to feel like he's just pandering or spinning a narrative.

It's TTT what can you say.

Here's the article LINK, which actually does quote Nuss

quote:

“He's been working his tail off trying to get things right, trying to make sure he's doing the right things,” backup quarterback Garrett Nussmeier said. “I think he's done a great job. He's really stepped up. It's going to start transitioning to the field.”

The title is accurate, Nuss made a statement about Harris, then I posted Kelly’s response in the post about Harris.

I guess it’s disturbing if you’ve never been in charge of anything and don’t know what large scale change looks like. For people that understand human nature and know that bad habits are hard to break, it’s not surprising at all.

I thought the same thing when watching the press conference. It came across positive.

There's nothing disturbing about that

You have a coach with a demanding program, where you strive for excellence/perfection.
And you have a bunch of college players, some of which are true freshmen and others who are transfers. Neither of which have a long time in the system.

This would be an issue if it were an NFL coach, and you had, say, Tre White and Marshon Lattimore as your corners; on the same team, running the same scheme, for the past several years. Elite guys at the peak of their careers, where you would expect them to call the same coverage the coach would.

This is a college team 2 games into the season, guys are still feeling things out. Learning keys, etc.

Does this not throw a huge red flag at the feet of our DC and db coach? That is just ridiculous after a full year of practice and two games.
