Not sure about Mulkey's comments re: trash talking

I know this won't make many friends here.....but I didn't really like Mulkey's dismissal of trash talking today. I'm all for vigorous competition...but I am a firm believer in the old school 'let your playing on the field speak for you" mentality. I know people talk trash in sports. It used to be sort of taboo. But nowadays, with mics everywhere, it's plain as day. I absolutely do not like the way the WBB team is given license to act like a bunch of thugs. Do your job....say "nice game"...walk off the Court and talk your shite in the locker room. It is still a fricking game...where sportsmanship is supposed to matter...and you are teaching kids who are watching and emulating. I love our success...but we don't have to be the Bill Lambier Pistons to achieve it.... Fire away.

All about how you define trash talking. She’s talking about all the social media stuff that gets said and responded to. It’s no longer just tolerated, it’s accepted.

Yes because Bird, magic, Isaiah thomas and Jordan were gentlemanly on the court.

What do you mean by old school? I played in the 80s and we trash talked constantly. Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins and MJ are my 3 favorite players and they all trashed talked.

Bro I hate to tell you this, but there has likely never been a pro championship team that didn't have a decent collection of trash talkers. Larry Bird's trash talking probably would have sent you into a coma.

You must hate Larry Bird and Michael Jordan, then.
Keep telling yourself that while you speak in racist code.

My fave was Larry Bird, when he walked into the locker room just before the All-Star 3 point shooting contest announced:
"Which one of you sorry em-effers is gonna finish second?"
Keep in mind, that wasn't even a game. Trash talking (especially in basketball) has been around even before Charlie Brown was coaching!

I get that. Actually...Bird's trash talk is some of the funniest I've ever heard. At the collegiate level...my perspective is that it is different. I know I'm in the minority here...but just offering my perspective. My kids will never say anything but "Good game"....because my opinion is that anything else is a bit trashy. To each their own.

I respect your opinion. I had one son that would never do it and one that would get in your head. Same gene pool.
The "trash talking son" once told me when I coached him during a basketball game timeout, "Dad, how much will you give me if I can get that hothead kid on the other team ejected" I replied "you can't, but I'll give ya $20".
The next time down on the free-throw line, the ref blew the whistle and threw the kid out. My son just winked at me.

You shouldn’t force your kids to pussys

Shocker. I hope you clutched your pearls at all the shite talking Burrow did in 2019. Or what our baseball team did last year.

Angel Reece walked past the UCLA team after fouling out and asked them what airline they were flying home on.
Now, that shite is funny
What nobody is bitching about is the milk and cookies team player who waved goodbye to her...typical racial doublespeak.

So you think Larry wasn’t trash talking at Indiana State? Would it be less funny in a college uniform than as a pro?
