No one should be able to enter the transfer portal until after the final championship game if you want to keep having bowl games. Or, just end bowls. I really don’t care.

But, I don’t want to see teams in a bowl game with 39 players and a WR playing QB again because of a culmination of opt outs, transfers, and players declaring for the draft leaves rosters barren. Either cancel bowls or move the transfer date back to Jan 2 or something.

Or, is the early date because of getting ready for the next semester of school? Nevermind. That would make sense.

Then, just kill the bowls. This is going to be a mess across the board.

Maybe shouldn't be able to transfer until the summer

100%. I do not understand why the portal enters so early. It's incredibly stupid

No the bowls will just be like spring ball. The young guys will be all in and the coaches will like the chance to coach them up.

And get the same interest and attendance as spring ball and have nothing to do with the season before that they are supposed to be a reward for.

What happened to LSU last year was in part because of a coaching change, but it very well could be the norm going forward. And it was a mess.

The bowls exist to bring tourists into the respective cities...as long as the bowls themselves aren't losing money, they will continue to exist unless enough schools start opting out of them.

But, the tourists aren’t going to keep going to a winter practice game with third stringers who are trying to get experience. That model won’t work.

Bowls are a nice reward and vacation for the teams, a last hurrah for the guys who won’t go pro, something to broadcast for ESPN, and a chance to see what’s available next year for coaches. Bowl games just aren’t that big of a deal but it’s extra college football so I’m not complaining.

If the bowls are meaningless, the entire season is meaningless except for the teams in championship contention.

Doesn’t matter if they delay the transfer portal, players will sit out if they don’t want to be there.

when only 25-30 teams made them they were nice...now 75% of D1 makes a bowl. They need to end them

Really? You have no idea why?

Do you propose teams simply not fill spots in hopes players will enter the portal and then maybe you'll be able could recruit them?

That would be incredibly stupid.

Teams need to know who they will pursue based on their needs and how many counters they have.

The bowls are a vestige of what college football used to be. The college game is losing a lot of the pageantry that made it fun and unique. It’s little more than a farm system for the NFL now. But I am too hooked to simply quit watching.

Rosters are not built for that much attrition and then trying to play a game
Players are gonna get hurt
If your LT decides to leave for draft and you don't have adequate replacement your QB might get hurt without that continuity of guys playing together
Yeah it was fun watching Kirklin as it was a novelty but it was a joke and embarrassing to the rest of the team and the opponent

Unfortunately it's what I enjoy on Saturdays in the fall but I don't know if it's sustainable

Then that bowl game will end. Who cares.

I think entering the portal means you’re offering yourself up - most coaches will let you step back out of portal and rejoin team (I think). Since these kids are supposed to have agents, I think the portal is a way to ask “who’s interested?”
