The flashpoint was a week ago, an 87 year old woman was evicted from the apt she lived in for 70 years. Her rent was 500 euros, new owners of the building jacked it up to 1650 euros and she couldnt pay.

Now huge protests, people setting up tent cities, they have "an acute housing crisis" for a few years now.

The president has now decreed that no one can be evicted until 2030. I guess everyone will stop paying rent, the owners will then not pay property taxes nor fixing anything and chaos will prevail.

I wonder if the same people protesting about housing........were the same ones protesting to let in the nearly 4 million immigrants while they were only building 100K housing units a year.

The math aint hard......same reason rent is dropping in the states after deportations started.

Spain has been overrun with Islamic radicals for more than a decade. Only recently has it received any media attention.

They are done ….

Yep. So many problems in this country would magically disappear if we could just get all the foreign invaders out.

I mean, is a Spanish housing problem really a news worthy story in the US?

Maybe it is a forecast for what will happen here if we don't change course. See NYC.

Media is against the truth and is too political.

Yes Caddy its all tied together.

The 10s of thousands of Morrocans that "invaded" the colony in Africa, Ceuta.

It was caused by this same idiot president "implying" he was going to make illegals legal.....so 10s of thousands invaded to get in line...................while you have a housing crisis for your actual citizens....making it worse.

Let them eat cake didnt work out so well for the disconnected leaders in the end.

If you get rid of a symptom that doesn’t mean you get rid of the virus. The invasion comes from the political aspects, mostly democrats but don’t discount pubs either. You fix the political system and the ailments start to disappear

I was equating to the US. International news all talk about solving the problem with no one addressing the root cause.

Same in the US, when housing prices skyrocketed it was covid, canadian lumber, etc and no one mentioned the 20 million coming in. Now the MSM doesnt broadcast the good news that prices are dropping as illegals go home.

Its the same reason housings so expensive in blue states and cities. They make it virtually impossible to build new housing then wonder, as the population increases and they raise property taxes, why housing costs keep rising.

How much of this dates back to the country waving the white flag after terrorist attacks before elections around 2004?

Yes.
Always try to learn from other's mistakes.
Especially when people around you are making those same mistakes.

We have anywhere from 20 to 40 million here depending on who you believe. We have much bigger problems than Spain.
