Again, it has nothing to do with Alleva and everything to do with money. Please read my post above. 325 students cost a lot to move, feed, and house. The money's just not there. But they are always accepting donations into the band booster fund through TAF.

but how will road stadiums hear 60 year old showtunes now?

Again I ask is band travel expenses part of the athletic budget? Joe Alleva is in charge of LSU athletics and if the band is not considered a part of that then this isn't his decision.

I understand the whole band not traveling if it's for financial reasons. If only a pep band can go to each road game, so be it. Better a portion of the GBFTL than none at each game.
I just hope it doesn't end up as it did during the Broadhead Administration. The band had to organize its own transportation to Oxford 1 yr in the 80s. They carpooled enough members but not the whole band.

The money is there, it always has been. Decision-makers just made decisions that didn't allow money to be used for that.
The subject just needs enough people complaining loudly enough about it to the right people, and it will happen ... Just like changing course and sending a pep band to Seattle a few years ago when at first they said "no band, too expensive"
Honestly, LSU should do exactly what closest peers like Bama and Auburn and Ole Miss do... If those schools send full band to 1 away game, so should LSU. If those schools send full band to all away games, so should LSU. If those schools send full band to 0 away games, so should LSU. It takes the decision away from people with other agendas.... Just do what everyone else does, and whatever it costs is what it is, and that's that.

Wasting your time. Irish tiger thinks Joe is responsible for everything bad.
Pretty sure he was involved in the JFK assassination.

Do you really believe that?
Believe what? That a pep band takes up about 300 less tickets? Yes.

Sounds good. But if everyone had that same philosophy, no one would ever change a thing.
I haven't been to a lot of away games, can you even hear them in an opposing stadium?

I haven't been following this at all but if the money's there what would be the incentive not to send them?

It's easy to say, but look at Auburn, for example. Three of their away games are within 4 hours. All of LSU's are 6+ hours away.
I definitely benefited from away games when I was in band. Our full band trips were Florida, Vanderbilt, Auburn, and Ole Miss (2004-2007). I remember the argument about never going to Bama was that it meant there were fewer seats available to the fans. If we get 8,000 seats from the home team, the visiting school will deduct their player family tickets and band tickets from that number.
I'm not arguing for or against it. Auburn and Bama ALWAYS send their full bands to us. I think Ole Miss frequently does, and I don't remember if aTm does anymore, but if they don't, it would only be because it is Thanksgiving weekend.

For the first time in many years, the full/whole tiger band WILL NOT travel during the regular season. WTF.
What is going on at LSU? Shameful.
Hey Irish, remember 2009 when there was no full band trip? That must've been Wicks, Moorhouse's, and Roy's fault right? Also that year (for those who don't know, the band typically leaves on friday and comes back sunday) 2 of those games were situations where the pep band left right after the game to come home and only got 1 night, and the Bama game they went there and back in 1 day.
But you're right, this is an unprecedented travesty. Its all because they fired Jesus .... sorry I mean Roy, I tend to get confused by the way you passionately speak of him.
BTW, I don't like what happened to Roy, but your blind passion without being able to see the other side of it is just annoying and makes you look like a pitch fork toting dumbass who only sees and hears what he wants and puts your hands over your ears and goes LALALALALALALLALALALALA whenever there is something you don't like.

quote:hmmmm I wonder why donations aren't there. Could it be because nobody trusts the piece of shite SOM to use their money where they want it to go? Also I don't buy that they don't have the money for a full band trip. The new band administration is so full of shite
The school of music would prefer to take the full band on the road more, but the funds aren't there and they need donors to step up. TAF gives donors the option to channel their donations to the Tiger Marching Band booster fund.

Yes the band is largely paid for out of the athletic budget. I believe it's something like 750k per year, but when you think about all the meals and hotel rooms and buses and general upkeep of other stuff it adds up pretty quickly.

99% of LSU fans care about the band
Band fires up the fans and the fired up fans fire the team up.
Full band not going to any away games is totally unacceptable.
I would bet $$$$$$ that LSU is the only SEC school to not send their full band to at least one visitors campus for a game.

And honestly if the choice was send 110 to Wisconsin or do a full band trip I would have preferred the full band trip. Pep bands in general suck and 110 is only slightly better than the 55. Both suck though. But I don't buy it for a second they couldn't do both. Don't believe anything that comes from the new band administration.

Damn shame
Used to love going to a game on the road and the full band drowns out the opponent's.

Would love to see the full band at one away game. Didn't we do that before?
Otherwise it doesn't matter. One full band trip, pep band otherwise. No one cares for more. But the one full trip does matter.
