NIL stuff coupled with new transfer rules is going to ruin college sports and turn it into professional AAU sports. You're going to have a handful of programs that go all in and pay the best players, and the other 90 % of teams will realize they cant keep up and quit trying.

Probably will end up with a 20 team super conference that will essentially be professional teams sponsored by colleges and alums of those colleges. Similar to the early days of pro football before the draft.

People talking about capitalism need to understand, in competition, parity is a good thing. A better idea would have been to form a minor league pro football league for guys that want to get paid sooner or have no interest in college.

I'm a free-market capitalist to the core, but sports leagues are different.

The appeal of sports is a competitive playing field, and when big money schools can basically buy better players, then it's not fair competition anymore, and that will show on the field, and public interest in the sport will decrease.

Thus the salary cap, in pro ball.

And if this continues, there will be little difference between pro ball and college ball.

uh, they voluntarily sign to play. And are provided a free college education, and the use of hundreds of millions (or billions) of dollars worth of facilities, and playing under the university's brand, which provides massive exposure.

And they can quit whenever they want.

Not exactly indentured servitude, now is it?

I didn't thing it would be very good for football specifically in the first place. I still think it's great for the other sports.

It's actually a lot like indentured servitude.

This NIL crap is ruining college football and all you idiots who don't see it are blind! Rich schools can buy recruits and that is the opposite of what they need to do? Let's expand the playoffs and get a little parity cause people are tired of seeing the same shite, oh wait, back to the same shite with the same schools? Some schools can't afford as much as others so in what world is that right?

This is a pretty narcissistic viewpoint isn’t it? Your sad that the players who entertain you get some of the money made off of their work?

Why doesn’t this thought apply to the coaches?

So if your job entertains someone else in some way, you would be cool in forfeiting money for the sake of the entertainment you provided, right?

NIL has nothing to do with this.

TV contracts do and, again, that has been a thing well before NIL.

Stop being a bitch because a player can now actually make some money off of their name.

Dude, we are in the 10%, so it's a positive for us.

Also, how is that any different from the last ten years?

baseball's a bad example. By its nature, the worst team in baseball can beat the best team 10-0 and nobody would be shocked.

And we often hear of "worst to first" in baseball in consecutive years.

And most of the worst teams finish around .400 and the best teams around .600. The nature of the game allows this. It's not like this in football and basketball.

Oh, and there's no hard salary cap in baseball, just the luxury tax.

it's bad for the overall health of the college game.

I'm not such a homer that I want to destroy the game just because my team will be among the survivors.

Yes You may think it is nonsense but that is the new order of things. Fortunately we are in a position to fight fire with fire.
